Fair or not, you have to just deal with what you've been given.
As to people switching sides, that's easier said than done. If they don't pay for a subscription then they have to wait 7 minutes if they leave, and there have been many times I tried to switch but kept getting the same side, or got a completely different game. Thus, I just stay on the side I'm on.
As you may have read above, many people have been in your situation before, and it's a good learning experience, even when you're just getting your butt beat. One thing to NEVER do is quit, if nothing else sit on the tarmac with brakes applied and ride out the slaughter and you'll still get points for losing, however a loss never counts against you. Funny though, you see many people leave (even some morafs) if they know they are going to lose.
Also, you may quit only to have some really good flyers pop in on your side. I have had that happen where I was outnumbered, doing my best to hold off the beasts thinking I'm going to lose, but then help arrives and we turn the game around to win.
If I'm on the team that outnumbers the other side, then I work on making it fair and fun for that player. If they are noobs, then I will try to coach them a bit but many times they don't want coaching and just leave. I read a couple of guys that were against some noobs and agreed to not fire on them and just tried to bomb the hangers, and they were successful. That is a challenge for the top players, but also funner for the noobs.
But then you have those narcissistic players that just want to do what they want to do, pad their stats, to feed their egos, that just don't care and will do anything to win, or pad their stats.
Decide what sort of player you want to be and go for it, just realize that some ways to play people respect, and other ways to play, people don't respect. But then if your one of the narcissists then you really don't care about anyone else anyway.
