Ok 173 got activated for three tours in enduring freedom starting 2005. So that narrows it down alot. They were in Iraq 2003 so 2005 to 2010 now just got to search that time frame, wounded in,action. B strahan said,he got injured in Afghanistan so my bro should be able to get something. All we got is John birthplace Missouri right.

So ... Is there any consensus on whether or not Missouri-born Jonathan Hunt from the 3rd ACR should be ruled out?

This is not our guy..that jon hunt was a CSM with the 3rd Armored Calvery

And again, why isn't there some kind of searchable WIA database anywhere?

OK Coop, but kindly explain to us nonmilitary types why being a CSM rules him out?

ScheiBe, you and me both found the same guy, if you look at the links in my post earlier today they go to the same source where you got your first pic from.

You guys can battle this one out.. I am tapped out on info. Until someone visually ID's this guy, I believe it is him. He has several titles with the 3rd ACR.. Coop explain why he is not our guy!

The only reason I say this can't be our guy and I is quite possible it is... Someone said that he was in for 14 yrs. And this guy served 26 yrs and was only relieved from his duties less than a yr ago.. I have been playing with duck well over a yr and he was already in the VA hospital when we were playing... And also I recall a mention of the 173rd airborne brigade and that unit was not in the bio of this fine man... I could be wrong just guessing myself my brother .Regardless Duck was our hero and always will be and it truly doesn't matter what rank what unit or what MOS.. he was our friend and comrade... R.I.P

I agree with coop. There are too many inconsistencies for this sergeant major to be our man. That aside, It is very unlikely for a 30 year old man (born in 83) to have served 14 years in the military. Even if both are true it is very unlikely that a senior sergeant major would be on a sniper mission. More likely someone of that rank would be in an operations or administrative role.

By the way, sniper pairs are like brothers. Was there ever any mention of his spotter's fate or name?

I also agree with coop that info about special forces is often suppressed to protect identities. If he was such a man, there is a possibility that nothing will be publicised.

If he was in hospital for a year, then he may just have been forgotten? I sincerely hope not.

That rank CSgt major aint goin out on a sniper mission one.Two age is off. Plus like I said 96 kills ooops I see coop already answered. But 96 kills is getting alot of attention If he was not special forces especially with the time served and the injury recieved. If it's special forces he basically didnt exist and he signed up for and knew that there would be no record of his achievements. Either way I spoke to him three times in games and I never came out and asked him but he seemed like a badass mofo the way he talked very direct no hesitation I didn't doubt him for a seconf. I liked him alot.. Id like to just get some money together for a memorial in his name or simply the name we knew him as.

Edit I shouldn't say no way there's always a way but it's highly doubtful.

This guy was in the 3rd ACR!

If you go thorough every magazine for the mounted rifleman, This guy was a top doggie, his piece always comes after the write up by top top dog, name of Allen I think, also lots of pr photos of this guy, no way was he an elite sniper, elite snipers don't post their picture and name on every street corner from here to Bahgdad, these guys usually end up with a bounty on their heads, same with deltas special forces, sas, sbs...this is not our duck, I'm sure of it.

If you're talking about the guy who was only 26, it can't be him. It'd be like Vortex going into sevice. It has to be the guy from '68.

Congrats, MOMs, you've finally suceeded in making me read you hellhole of a thread, :)

If our Duck was a sniper, which he appears to have been, elite or not, SpOps or not, he would have been somewhere between 20 and 30 at a guess, you could push it to 40, but these guys (snipers) are kinda special, in their physical condition and mental attitude. The age thing seems to be hinging on 14 years service, but have we got that correct, even so, 14 years service, join up at say 17, puts the age at around 31 mark.
The guy were looking at left 3rd armoured cavalry just last year, don't know if he transferred to another unit, or retired.

And I think the only service Vortex has or will ever see, is self service

OK thanks everybody. I now understand why the 3rd ACR "Jonathan Hunt" is probably not our guy.

But if Duck served 14 years, and if he lived not more than 30 years, and if he spent at least his last two years (just guessing) in VA hospitals, and if he enlisted straight outta high school at age 17 or so, then he couldn't have been born much later than 1979 or so. So that also rules out the other "Jonathan Hunt" ScheiBe said he found who was born in '83.

Edit: That being said, and to acknowledge Wig's comment below, the fact that two randomly discovered soldiers also named "Jonathan Hunt" are not our Duckwing does not prove or disprove anything we know about the Duck, which I believe to be true regardless.

While it would be nice to know for memorial purposes, if his service bio is unavailable because he was special forces or whatever, then so be it.

No question in my mind Jon is a hero.

Duckwing Jon's information was kept under the lid for reasons that should be obvious given the nature of what we understand to have been his job. If he, or they, had wanted us to know, we'd know. He would have told us himself. He did not. I'm for respecting that, paying tribute to his stature In Dogfight - the only real context we have for him - and letting the rest, the quest, go.

Wig, is all knowing and I always respect his sense of common sense of which we always seem to share..

I am going to remove all these photos and info of Jonathan J. Hunt. One reason also is that if this poor guy who I have plastered his face about, see's or hears about it somehow, it may not be too wise for me/us to be speaking of him in the "past tense"...

It is best to remember and imagine Duckwing1/Jon as we knew him in Dogfight and the Forum. We don't need pictures to remember a Hero and friend.

Don't know what you read, but it's a few years out of date, the cathedral as it is at present celebrated it's 900th year last year, I think it was, but it's been a monastic site since around 670 AD. History lesson over, I want homework on my desk first thing yesterday :(
