I posted this earlier today when I found out he was going to have to be put down. My cousin wrote a hell of a tear jerker about losing your dog. The song is called Labrador. Neither of my labs hunted much, but I can identify. Both of my labs have died this year. Both 13 almost 14 years old. The worst is not being close to home. Wah wah wah , I know, but I'm pretty depressed about it.

It's one of my favorites that Walt has written so far. But, today it did make me cry. I've had a lot of dogs in my life, but never a pair that lived so long, nor went through so many changes. Marriage, a thousand mile move, jobs, 2 kids, more job changes. They were a constant presence through so many changes in my life. Like I said, it doesn't help being really tired and a thousand miles from home right now. So, I'm whining at the bar.

Jack you know I'm a hunter i have had a couple dogs over the years all have been bets friends the last one i told myself never again i can't do it till my wife said look how cute this little puppy is. Right then I knew there was no saying no. That was three years ago so now we have a miniture schnauzer and I hope it's a long time before i have to go through it again. Any time you want to grab a beer a stool and tell dog stories i would be more than happy.

Jack, that sucks buddy. Sorry to hear it. We had 2 cockers for nearly that long, Cody and Daytona. Cody died from liver cancer and Daytona went a few months later from a broken heart. I swore that was the last time I'd ever have a dog. Too much like having kids. It's unreal how much they become a part of the family.

Well, I made it a few years and next thing I knew, my wife had talked me into "looking". We ended up with a rescued pup. Got her when she was 8-9 weeks old. Her mama was a black lab and papa was a boxer. The litter had 8 pups. 4 male, 4 female. Females all came out chocolate and the males black. I swear you can't tell she's mixed. Looks like a pure bred Chocolate Lab. She's the last one to tell me bye in the morning and first to greet me when I get home. We named her Puddin' and she's a sweetheart. Lots of smiles from that pooch. I started a thread a while back about our pets. Check itnoutnif your heart can take it.

I guess my blues are partly the dog, partly not being home to console everyone else over the dog.

It's like turning the last page on a very long chapter... I'll be fine. I've been through it with dogs before. I've been through a lot worse with people... Another story, another time... Its just that these 2 have been with me and my wife from the beginning though. I married her 6 months out of high school, and we got the dogs just b4 we got married. And as I said earlier, the other one just went 4/5 months ago.

I think part of my problem is losing the dog, and part of it is all of the "hard choices and sacrifices" that have led to me not being there today for her and the kids. It's kind of a double whammy.

And there all my wife wants are Miniature Pekingese now I know what your thinking, Thats not a real dog.. thats just a fur ball that POOPS well maybe so, But they have been the best little NUTT WARMERS Ive ever had around the house And i would'nt trade for ether of them Cuddles who past away 2 yrs ago and the new guy Boo. who i call the damed little ASSASSIN due to him tripping me up on the stairs OFTEN....

The wording was by design Manfred. one of my favorite old jokes when I say it, people look at me very strangely.
