Here's what I get when trying to make profile changes:

So yes, Gary, you may be dead-on. Anyone here have a spaceless name but still can't change profile info? Or conversely, anyone have spaces in your forum name but find you can still make changes? I'm trying to get a definitive handle on this, I just wrote to Joaquin and expect we'll follow up later today. If it is, in fact, as case of Kunena, the forum host, having made names with spaces unacceptable...and made the change retroactive to affect existing names, a slew of us are screwed. With no provision for changing your account ID name, and now that name being blocked, a significant percentage of Dogfightsters are up a crick. It's a remarkably dumb move if that's what we find is behind all this.
Rob, you're right about the server proximity having an impact on lag. I've found lately, though, that lag cuts across all servers. I can't even say with confidence that it's dramatically less severe on the Asian servers when compared to the East Coast US server nearest me. It does depend to some extent on mission type. Those BTC and CTC missions - and FFA missions when dogfighting near carriers - are so brutally laggy because the water FX are too demanding. Is that a bandwidth thing? Dunno. I just know that you get near the water and it all goes to hell. The new water looks dull and static...until you get close. There's a ton of unnecessary splishy-splashy detail only visible right at the surface. From ten feet above it can't be seen but it's sucking resources just the same. Even a non-lagging mission deteriorates into a jutter-fest the moment the action shifts out over a lake. Joaquin, if you're listenin', strip the water FX back to something rudimentary. The trade-off is so poor that I don't even play carrier based games anymore, and I'm not alone. The new water doesn't look particularly good but it effectively ruins every game in which it factors.
DAVE RAY, absolutely, I asked him to apply several months ago. As often happens, we haven't heard from him but that can mean he either doesn't access the forum, has forgotten (or didn't understand) that he was invited, or prefers flying solo. With the preponderance of jackasses flooding through the servers there's a rapidly shrinking list of players I'd feel comfortable inviting to apply to join M.O.M. Dave would be one I'd welcome. Also Avma/1001, Skunkoil, Samweb who I know will never join but I still love ya Sam so you're permanently on my list, and two, maybe three, others. That's about it. MBizzi did join, then vanished for a while due to some health issues. He still doesn't play regularly but I'm confident that we'll eventually get the details worked out. I was more concerned with his well being than with any join/not-join nonsense. I think Brian would enjoy having Biz in M.O.M and I know I would.
Gotta admit, on the flipside of who I like as prospective M.O.Ms, I have a growing Max-esque "hit list". PM me for names, they don't deserve the free PR here. There's some wisdom in the suggestion that server segregation has produced a large crop of cocky noobs who've not had the benefit of learning respect at the business end of some veteran-inflicted shredding. They jump into the long-pants servers with their laser iPad H2H sniping skill all dialed in and think they own the joint. I'm spending a helluva lot more time lately muting these jerkwater punks. I don't remember this ever being the case back in the day, but then, we didn't have the sheer numbers we have now.
More players + less discipline = more flaming assclowns. That, my M.O.Ms. is math.
