Just tried a game.... Mistake! It was like rookies day all over! First game in weeks and I sucked! Might have to start a noob account and get some practice. Saw Davy and Giz. All of Davy's teammates left him and I tried to switch, but no joy.
Fuck this place. Second rate hack playing in a yard that's too big for him.

Heads up all who get the military channel: just watched the first two installments of their new series, "Air Aces." Good production with much detail and a lot of information I was totally unfamiliar with...and I've always been an aviation history buff. Airs at 8 and 9 pm CST on Sundays. HAPPY VIEWING! (Have already learned more about the art of deflection shots than I ever thought knowable...) B)

Deflection shots? That must be the one where you aim very very carefully at a red, then just as you hit the fire button some dopey blue gets in front, thereby deflecting the shot from the red and leading to howls of teamkiller!!!!

Dent, you only need wash one pair, hang em up to dry for tomorrow, the rest you wash while wearing em in the shower. Comes to that you only need two pair really if you think about it. See my pamphlet Hints for Single Blokes. Available free at any WI meeting.

That's the one...! It was news to me, tho...at start of WWII they had fitted planes with gun cameras to record kills, but they were adjusted for "customary" in-line, straight-on shots. First flyer to actually figure out how to lead and kill came back with film of empty sky cause he was aiming way ahead of the target...no kill registered for him. He went on to register more than 30 kills in the battle for Malta...This was the same guy who had his ground crew recalibrate the sweet spot for his guns from 400 yards to 250 yards and remove tracers from his ammo string so he'd be a more effective hunter-killer. (shhh, don't tell anyone...he was Canadian...) :woohoo:

I watched a couple of those shows. VERY good!

That Canadian had incredible/inhuman vision. And I liked his style.

Not posting to often because it's summer and I'm boating, biking and working on stupid inventions. Will re-post some earlier pics that some may have missed. My Photobucket file has over 5000 pics...most from here. It's like a visual history of DF.

Try rubbing it in a bit harder Dent, the soap that is...but don't rub too har....oops too late   :pinch:

Wait a minute! Why are you wearing a weeks worth in one go? Hmm, actually you might have something there, put a weeks worth at a time on, you only need to remove one pair before going to bed, but you save time in the morning nit having to put another pair on, so you get extra time in bed!! Dent that's bloody brilliant! I'll be sure to add that to the next print run of my pamphlet, of course I shall put your name to it :)

It was also interesting to see some of the same debate we see in our digital DF... Beurling was anything but a team player. Got him a bad rep with the Brits in England, so he asked for the Malta posting. The local commander was more than happy to let him loose on Jerry considering they were getting constantly bombed and strafed. Beurling's performance as a killer overrode all the earlier criticism and made him a hero to Brits and Canadians....

But, still doesn't override the need for collective teamwork to gain victory...and the debate continues...SB, where the hell are you...?

I'm no purist...both actions are amazingly interesting. I always enjoy looking at them as a flow of technological evolution that theae pilots had to adapt with or die. Amazing to go from the Wright brothers, to the killing innovations of WWI, and on to P-51's and ME 262's all in less than 50 years. The backdrop, of course, is that its a shame that one of the great drivers of innovation just happens to be our desire to kill each other...

Very true bt, from the dawn of humankind that has sadly been the case. It's the same with medical advances, the greatest of them seem to come from the battlefield

I alway's wondered how the world would be today if just WW1 and WW2 would not have happened...
In WW1 alone there were 1 day battle's where each side lost 10's if not 100's of thousand's of people. Those numbers are staggering. How many great minds, invention's and just plain good people did we lose. Possibly a great president in the states, Prime minister in the UK? Who know's?

I am a huge history nut. If its old school military(WW1 or WW2) I have watched it read it or am in the process of doin it. The wife hates it. :( I caught part of the first air aces episode. It was interesting that I had never heard of Beurling since he was such a famous flyer. I didn't see the whole thing but I set the DVR up to catch all the episodes. I always like to hear new things. It seems most shows focus on the same old stuff.

I miss the "wings" series from History channel. Wings over Europe. Wings over the pacific. Great series.

My all time favorite doc. is The World At War. I can watch that over, and over. Ask my wife. :)

I got the feeling that the Brits saw Buerling as some kind of glory hound, not your typical old school peerage type. While he got a lot of publicity toward the end of his run, he seemed to go off the rails when he addressed public bond sale events...graphically describing the demise of his victims: how such and so's German head blew off, or how it was only a good kill when he saw brain matter...not that he cared much about his public image. For the Brits, it must have been like unleashing a convicted axe murderer so long as he was programmed to target the hun...but not exactly the home-spun hero type like Audie Murphy et.al. Might explain why his legend is a bit murky...

Yeah I saw the war bond speach part. Yikes!!!!!! Pretty graphic for those days. Back then you didn't see or hear things like that in the media. Now days that's all you see and hear. Different times.

So as the official morale/training/historian officer of MOM, I was looking back to see what happened a year ago (to the day) on this thread. The highlights:
  1. Wig posts the first pass of the confirmed members of MOM (24 in total).
  2. Slender notifies the group that the first post of the thread has been "sticky'd" and MOM is an official squadron.
  3. Zandor Hawke applies for membership!
  4. EddieRickenbaker and Felebad also sign-up and are quickly accepted.
  5. Zandor Hawke still waits.
  6. MOM tag is now available for selection.
  7. Kopf posts the (first?) official roster - I sneak in!
  8. A number of members start questioning the voting process for new members. Coincidence?

So Happy (Official) Anniversary everyone! I've got the beer but I'm still on the road looking for Kopf! Hmmm...probably should pull over and deal with this excess beer.
