Questions lately about recruitment protocol, Star Chamber timing, announcements both to the squad regarding updates on applicants and to applicants themselves updating them on their status...here, have some answers, free fer nuthin;
When you "recruit" you should be doing nothing more definite or far reaching than recommending that a player visit Page 1 of the thread, submit an application/introduction email and wait. Posting on the thread is a great way to follow up and gives the squad the chance to "meet" a new candidate.
Don't recruit anyone you've only played once. Get to know the personality behind the playing skill. At the very least be sure the playing skill wasn't a one mission fluke. Be sure of who you're sponsoring.
The Star Chamber takes its sweet time. That was part of the point of restructuring the recruitment process. Getting to know new recruits, making arrangements to fly with them. We estimate that an average recruitment process will take three weeks. Might be more, might be less. John a k a McCudden was well known to most of us, that voting process took an hour or two. A player we've never heard of might take longer than three weeks. It takes as long as it takes. If a recruit wants in he'll make himself available to play with SC members, that'll speed the process.
The keys for you as a M.O.M are to "steer", not to "invite", and to make clear that you are taking this prospect under your wing...and to be extry super certain it's a M.O.M you're recommending. Age is only a small part of the formula. Wit, banter, grammar, affability, sportsmanship, skill, potential...all factor in.
Once you're sure of who your steering to the application link, The Star Chamber will take over and, as I said, take as long as it takes, whether hours or weeks. A longer period without word might be a bad sign, might merely mean that not enough SC members have had the chance to meet and play with the recruit. Coop or I will keep you all posted, but no news is not always bad news. We have half a dozen players "pending" right now and until more info leads to more informed IN or OUT votes they'll remain pending. We neither want to admit someone without adequate info nor reject them purely on the basis of not knowing enough to vote IN. Once we present someone to the squad it means we've satisfied ourselves that it's a M.O.M we're offering up to you for sacrifice, not just a decent player or a decent person. My real mom is the kindest, funniest, most admirable person I know...but she'd suck in a chase with TheVampire.
In any case, the final word is, as always, yours. But while we deliberate on a recruit let's keep the impatience down to a dull roar. Your Star Chamber thanks you. More or less.
