If it helps to generate much needed income to keep the game and the forum going, I really don't think Wig or any squad owner would have a problem with it, they just have to be asked first.
I understand the response that material posted on the forum could be seen as belonging to Echoboom, but its a legally grey area, in a way the forum belongs to all of us, Echoboom manages it on the behalf of all of us.
Zup, though you may or may not need to gain permissions, the sensible and polite thing to do, is to ask, I sure permission would be given. It also shows that you are involving all of us to some degree in the advancement of the game, it shows you care about the community here, the community you created.
Well, I agree with you that it shouldn't present a problem but there are a few things that are not the way you are portraying it.
1) Material posted on the Forum can be used since it is a Dogfight Squadron and on Dogfight Forum. The owner is whoever created the content but it can be used for anything game related.
2) The thread clearly says that if any squadron doesn't want to be included on there, just let me know. No big deal.
3) It was done all in good faith, as a gift to the community. No income is generated from it. What I pay the graphics designer to go through the forum and begin to add designs cannot be covered by the purchase of t-shirts (unless we've sold like 2000 t-shirts at triple the current price).
You see, something that could have been as simple as: hey Zup, we don't want to be there, thanks.
Turned into sending me an email and posting here like I was trying to make a profit out of Wig's design. Also mentioning how unprofessional we are and a full attack on another thread etc etc etc. So I keep it friendly but if Wig really wants me to be professional, his banner does not hold any rights because it's based on trademarks and most banners on MOM thread use famous females that I'm sure gave no permissions.
So pick, I'm professional and I don't post here, neither interact with the community and just take 'cleaning' actions pointing to rule #x. Or prefer friendly me who is not always professional but try to be understanding and make certain concessions.
