“If anything is worth doing, do it with all your heart.”
“Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the single candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.”
So said the Buddha, or so it is said (if Google can be trusted...) No, not the player named Buddha (if there is one), but the actual Buddha, the guy under the lotus tree, or whatever kind of tree it was, etc.
In any event, when the Buddha said what I said he said up there (which as I may have said, I cut and pasted from Google and which by the way is now in the public domain, all rights reserved, patent pending...) he might as well have been saying something about our own original founding father of M.O.M, the great man himself, he who must and should be named, that's right, Mr. Rick Wiggins, aka Wigbomb, aka Jolly Ole Saint Rick, aka Grand Master Wig and the Furious Bomb, and, well, you get the idea...
Why, you may well ask? Meaning, why did the Buddha say those nice things about Rick (or may as well have said, since you may as well have asked)? The answer is so simple as to be plainly self-evident --through the evidence of his absence, which is (unfortunately for this forum and this thread) now all around us-- that it beggars belief if you can't see it. Notwithstanding that the absence of evidence is not necessarily evidence of absence, which it isn't, and which he isn't (absent, that is, not really--as in, he still walks the earth, just as Jesus and the Buddha once did, albeit not all at the same time, although time is relative, or so they do say...)
Now where was I?
Oh yeah, I was trying to explain why the Buddha thought so highly of Rick that he said all those nice things about him way back when (which he really did, if you really think about it, or don't think too much about it and just go with the flow, which the Buddha probably never did say but may as well have).
So, to reiterate, the first nice thing that I said the Buddha said up there about Rick is this:
"If anything is worth doing, do it with all your heart.” And here's why it applies to Rick: This squad, the Mean Old Men, and this thread, and a whole lot of people's experience of this game and each other, including friendships made, lost, re-made and re-imagined, simply would not exist if Rick hadn't done what we all know he did, from the get-go, with all his heart, and soul, and creative genius, and kindness, and thoughtfulness, and tireless work, and endless patience, of which he gave freely, to M.O.M's and non-M.O.M's alike. And throughout which (if not because of ), he endured (attracted?), countless travails, including personal attacks on his character and invasions of privacy, and mediated countless disputes, sometimes at great personal expense to his health and well-being.
And why did he do it? It's simple: to Rick, it was worth doing. And so, like the Buddha foretold, Rick did it with all his heart, which I am pretty certain is the only way he coulda, woulda, or otherwise knew how to have done it. And the result was something extraordinary, and profound, and long-lasting (but not forever, except in our hearts). And for that we all (including those with whom Rick may have locked horns over the years) owe him a debt of gratitude, for so enriching this game and our lives.
Which brings me to the other nice thing that I said the Buddha said about Rick, which is this:
“Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the single candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.” I mean, do I even need to explain that? Just think about it. I honestly can't say I've ever met anyone, in the real world or the virtual world, who has so shared his own innate happiness, enthusiasm, intelligence and joy with so many people, with all his heart, and without expecting a thing in return, as Rick has done with all of us. And, like the Buddha said, it has not diminished him in the least, but it has only brightened our lives.
I swear, if I didn't already know better, and I read what I just wrote up there, I might think I was reading about Jesus, fer chrissakes! But, even Jesus must have had limits to his patience, for so it has been said:
"Nobody fucks with Jesus."
One can hardly expect more from a mere mortal such as Rick.
So Rick, from the bottom of this fake pope's heart, thank you, man.
It needed to be said.
And I invite anyone else to join in, hopefully with an animated gif or two, like of that guy in the Great Gatsby raising a toast..
(PS: I'm not just saying this so you'll go easy on me in that bloody tank of yours ...
