Hi Rick,
Just got a bloody nose from playing againt Sergent Furax! He totally 'murdalized' us...but didn't see him lagg at all.
He is just incredibly fast in swirving about, and none of is stood a chance. Could it be that he has a much faster internet connection, or something like that?
Even in tight curves, much faster than I was.....
But what was clear is that he has no interest in reaching his goal, just intercepts in the middle of the field for high scores.
Never seen him carry a bomb!
Never flies head-on, only swirving to get you in a curve.....(well, it workes for him!)
Compimented him on his flying,
Well, just a thought.
I was in this game too, didn't see him lag at all, dropped his bomb at takeoff but had the decentsy to stay mid field and not come near our base, I've only just come to forum now and seen all these posts about him so at the time I was playing I didn't have a clue who he was, but to be perfectly honest I don't have anything against him (apart from the irritating bomb dropping, but thats not exactly new) he held a friendly convo and in his defence he was outnumbered for a majority of the game.
I'm not by any means saying I don't believe what you guys are saying, just putting in my 2cents worth
I felt the same way you guys did until I was shot down really high up and then I saw it, he was fast and skipping just a tiny bit, try going high and look at him. It's easy to see in a chute way up there.
And he did not go near base so that was good. But on a bomb base mission you have to drop your bomb to fight him. WHAT GOOD DOES THAT DO.
None of us could touch him and the only time i hit him twice he kept going. HE IS UNNATUALLY FAST.
I would like to see what he does carrying a bomb.
Furax never carries. I'm astonished that he wasn't base camping, it's almost all he ever does. Zig-zag his way to the base, bombless, then camp and exploit that unnatural speed you mentioned.
Please keep in mind, lag takes several different forms. A player can be lagging his fool head off but not appear jittery, not vanish and reappear, not exhibit any of the obvious, tell-tale signs of lag. Furax and his ilk clearly have a tech advantage of some sort, in a game like Dogfight there's only so much room for differing skill levels. Think about it; you can only aim so accurately, you can only turn so fast, there are only so many moves you can perform and tactics you can implement. It's a comparatively simple, unsophisticated game. At a certain level the playing field, skill wise, is sufficiently even that the differences in device, connection speed and "x factor" become obvious. My hand/eye coordination, vision, aiming accuracy are every bit as good as those of a 13 year old kid called TheDarkmist262...so whatever it is that makes him able to drop me at will repeatedly, it clearly has to do with his having a larger display, a faster processor, a faster, more stable WiFi connection. I use him as an example because he freely admitted to his tech edge. Combine all that with the subtle no-hit form of otherwise undetectable lag and you have your Sergent Furax's and Dragon Rojo's...and some veteran players who also benefit from subtle tech advantages. The stripped down fact of the matter in Dogfight is that a simple command is sent from my device, through the server, to your device. On my end it's "bullet fired"...on your end it's either "hit" or "miss". If either of us are lagging or out of sync (as we see with Windows 8 users) what should be a hit will appear to be a miss because it isn't registering at the receiving device's end. Throw overtaxed server lag and glitchiness into the mix and you can account for 100% of the game's screwy behavior.
Is a Sergent Furax the most gifted player of Dogfight in the game's history? Not when any number of us have had the experience of pushing dozens of rounds into him without result, and not when Davy's bird's eye view reveals the lag I've always known is there but that is almost always undetectable to the naked eye. Nobody, not any of the best players of this game, not Brian Strachan or M4rtin or Davy or 1001 or BluE MaX or The Vampire, none of them roll up impressive kill scores and zero deads in mission after mission after mission. It's that zero, more than anything else, that points to something other than pure skill. Dogfight just doesn't work that way, unless there's something else at work.
