What several players have complained about, is when you stay on the ground near a base/boat (distracting arrow on screen) and just complain.
When a teammate constantly repeats "It's over!" "No chance!" "We lose!" kind of stuff it's not a morale booster.
I have known you a long time. I look forward to flying/sitting with you. That's why I say, "SMILES!" when I see you.
I wear a special adapter/harness I've designed so I can fly. Most of the time it's literally a pain. So, sometimes I just go cruising and taking the uninitiated on a "Goose-chase" through the mountains. I may not shoot them down. (I can't see either.) Flying them into the ground is FUN! It helps my team by distracting the defenders. Try that.

Let's go set on a mountain top and chat (during a slow game).

For the record and contrary to what I may say in-game, I do not think making use of the whole map is wrong. Dive bomber or back door bombers are a great way to win a game. I do talk smack to the guys doing it, especially when I am grossly outnumbered. It's only a tactic. I can't cover high, east, west AND no-mans land all at once. If I can taunt a high flyer into coming at me down the middle, it's less ground I have to cover.

I am actually jealous of those that can take the high way or long way around. I don't have the patience and I have only successfully done it a couple of times. If I spend 10-15 minutes climbing to ceiling or going around the side and get shot down inches from the base, I'd lose my mind! If I didn't call asleep before I got there, that is.

So, if you're going high and I catch you, you'll probably see "chicken move" pop up on the chat, but it's really sour grapes.

One more thing on dumpers, I'll continue to call you out in the game. I understand the idea of strategy and could even buy into it, IF I didn't seeing you dropping on take off EVERY time. Everyone should play to their strengths. Im a fair chaser, not nearly as good as some of the pros and you know who you are. However, I get a lot of satisfaction by delivering a bomb on the intended target. Therefore, I avoid dropping unless absolutely necessary. This is how I play and that doesn't mean if you don't play exact like me that I am upset. How bork g would that be? I just challenge those habitual dumpers to give it a shot sometime, especially if you are on my team. At least make an attempt to carry. Drop if the situation calls for it, but if you drop at the start, I just see it as an attempt to pad your stats by taking advantage of other players and NOT in support of your team or the mission.

Last point... Just because someone has a different opinion and voices it, doesn't necessarily constitute "whining". This subject like so many other "dead horse" topics illicits some strong feelings and opinions. If you can't discuss it without name calling, insults or general respect, that's just sad.

Plu, glad to see you on the forum. Come by more often and please keep your plane in the air. I like it so much better when your trying!

Paul, I'm astonished how many non-noobs will make strafing runs over and over at a downed plane (it's painful to say I do this too often myself before I realize what's going on), and more often than not they crash or blow themselves up. I may have killed more enemies while on the ground than in the air.

I do admit it burns my chaps when the server will load one team with six marshals. As far as I'm concerned, it totally takes the fun out of the game (also spawnkillers and teamkillers...and spawnkilling when a team has a 6-2 edge is just Expletive Deleted). I don't enjoy being on either team when that happens.

We all have our personal reasons for why we enjoy playing “Dogfight”. They are as varied and different as the players in this game. As for me, I play this game primarily for the thrill of dogfighting and the satisfaction I get by aggressively engaging an opponent and shooting him/her down in a maneuvering, swirling, dizzying fight… (or die trying)! For me, the better the opponent, the better the ”Dogfight” experience.

I want you to know that I respect others who play “Dogfight” for reasons other than my own. If you play to win the games, that’s great. If you play because you enjoy bombing airfields, capturing aircraft carriers, and shooting down zeppelins, that’s good-to-go. If you choose to carry a bomb (or not), or drive a tank, that’s fine by me. To each his/her own. You fight your way; I’ll fight mine.

I say all this because I have recently read a number of posts criticizing others like myself who play “Dogfight” primarily because they enjoy the challenge of shooting down maneuvering opponents. I’ve read complaints saying that these types of dogfighters are simply interested in “padding their stats”. I’ve read complaints saying that they’re not team players. I’ve read complaints saying that they’re “selfish” because they don’t play for wins and shun other aspects of the game such as bombing, carrier capturing, tanks, etc. I’ve read complaints saying that they should change their dogfighting style and conform to someone else’s style of play. My response to these critics is simply this:

Regardless of whether or not you agree with my personal dogfighting philosophy, extreme dogfighters (for lack of a better term) are valuable members of ANY team. By engaging the enemy aggressively, extreme dogfighters effectively SUPPRESS their opponents and deny them the ability to capture carriers, bomb airfields, shoot/protect zeppelins, and shoot down bomb-laden aircraft. It seems obvious to me that a team with a strong cadre of extreme dogfighters almost GUARANTEES their team a victory because they provide teammates with COVER and SUPPRESSION, thereby enabling them to get through to their targets, bomb, and WIN! If you care about wins, extreme dogfighters are GREAT teammates!

As for MY personal stats displayed on this thread: I suppose to some they might be “proof” that I’m padding my kill ratio; to others they may be “proof” that I’m selfish, or that I’m not a team player. As for me, they’re simply a reminder of some satisfying aerial victories and a few very painful shootdowns (special thanks to my friends Rickenfaker, bomber, bossman, Big Tex, Stormbringerfast, Kevy, BunnyBunny, etc). But I will NOT be ashamed of my stats… I worked hard for (and enjoyed) every kill.

As I said earlier, I am always looking for a great dogfight. If you’re a talented flyer, I hope you will accept this as a personal challenge and dogfight me any chance you get. Believe me, nothing would make me happier! As I said earlier, the better the opponent, the better the “Dogfight” experience.

Finally, to my fellow extreme dogfighters- Don’t succumb to peer pressure. Don’t change your fighting style. For everyone: I encourage you to fly and fight in a manner that suites your personality and makes you happy. I salute you all and look forward to flying into battle with you very soon!

Well Mr Raptor, I'm saddened you feel that way as I wouldn't ever want to annoy you, you offered me so much support and guidance when I first started out. But I will say nothing more than I was trying to defend a 'friend', if he had given an example, weather he didnt like his pics, his name or his flying technique that would've been understandable but to just name him with no explanation, was a little unfair.

I apologise if you feel that there is some sort of 'MOM sponsorship or censorship' but that isn't the case, I would've asked the same questions to Paul, parrot, dent or blue max if they had said the same about you.

I'm disappointed that you didn't give me the benefit of the doubt or just questioning my handling of my comment before spitting your dummy out.

I understand wanting to deffend Paul and a friend i really do its honorable, unfortuneately due to the fact that you were the party that started the thread you must shed your loyalties for the sake of equality and fairness. which you didnt you saw some thing that shocked you at first, knowing Dixie was new and a bit offensive you assumed the only the worst could be ment his comment to Paul. you crossed a line when you took sides with your friend and demanded explaination or else. cant do that Rich, you as the one who started the thread have a responcibility to all that have posted and all that may post to do exactly not what you did. the credibility of you the thread and the ones who have posted are your responsibility to keep credible. thats just the way it is, i believe you understand that too. so deffending Paul who we all know can take perfectly good care of himself, well even if you had sugar caoted what you said, still would have stripped all credibility. I see your point about me being impartial, I am a short fused muppet and frequently put my foot in it, (possibly another English expression) and should have learnt by now. I do believe you went off a little strong and because it was from you I reacted VERY bad. I hate when I feel like someone I know is verbally attacking me, I'm a nutcase I guess.

So when a new menber comes in makes a comment,that doesnt warrent the knee jurk reaction that the squad gave, at least not at that time. it puts inconsistancy in the what we are doing and we all loose. Firstly, thanks for a very well thought out, well written, cohesive reponse. That's quite refreshing. I understand your position as well. I listed you here after our last game together. You, and everyone else, are free to play any way you choose. All I want to do is point out that the way you choose to play, which gives you enjoyment, is at the expense of my enjoyment of the game. Therefore, I choose not to play bombing games that involve anyone that isn't there for the mission.

I posted your stats as an illustration of your focus. That was not in any way a criticism.

I believe you in your stated reasons for the way you play. I have faced you several times and its obvious you enjoy the chase. Your reasons are completely creditable. I have said many times that guys doing this must be doing it just to pad their stats. Until your reply, it didn't occur to me that your stated motivations were also likely. Thanks for that.

I will say this, if I'm in the mood for "extreme dogfighting", I can do that in a FFA, Zep or CTC mission and still "play" the mission. I do not enjoy FFA as much as the other missions. So, I don't stay when I spawn into them most of the time. When I enter a bombing mission, which I thoroughly enjoy, and have to constantly dump my bomb to deal with someone that never had theirs, it turns my beloved bombing mission into a team-based dogfight. So I say again, you choosing to play the game the way you "want" to, is at the expense of my enjoyment. Continue to play the game any way you like. I will continue to leave when you are any other habitual dumper show. It's not worth my time.

Please do not think I hold any hard feelings. I like you. I enjoy the challenge of flying against you. You are among the top chasers in the game. You have my respect for that. Flying against you makes me better. I enjoy your chat in the game as well. I hope this continues and I haven't offended you. If I have, I apologize, but this is the way I feel about it.

When looking at the top100 last night I can see that some people are really lacking in the playing department, its clear to see that 'certain' people are maybe, entering the game, not playing but get the win reward. Its just a game, remember! And not everyone have ace skills. Lets take myself as an example: i hate pure dogfight, i simply dont pkay these kind of missions, they are pointless to me. I am horrible in chasings. Easy target, die as a rookie. On head ons, I play slightly better, bug still bad - my left thumb is not too responsible, my eyes are weaker each day, and s2 screen is too little for me.

So, I like to play like some kind of rogue - flanking, avoiding fights. You can call me a chicken, I dont mind. I know my limits, and I try to have fun playing my way.

And even if I had steady thumbs and good eyes, and a big screen to play, I would prefer plaing dtz missons, simply because I like them!

So, whats wrong or unfair or not-sportsmanship or shame or negative or ridiculous on acquiring rank points by playing mostly dtz missions?

Someone can say: "ok, but doing so you is not goig to be a good teammate..."
Maybe, but I always play to win the mission, instead of earning points by reaching 3 digits of kills...
