Here's the latest version of my age statistics for DOGFIGHTERS.

These percentages are of course only approximate, but with numbers now in the hundreds, it is possible to interpret some of the dips and peaks in the distribution chart.

The average age of dogfighters is 29 years, and the median age is 27.

To make the histogram as reliable as possible, I have lumped the dogfighters together in 5-year groups. Some information is lost in this way, for example that the largest single age group is the 13-year olds, who make up almost 9% of the total all on their own.

There is an obvious dip in the age group 20-25, when most young people spend their time on their education.

Then there is the 40-year peak, when people are well established and start to become restless. Some choose these years to be unfaithful to their marriage partners, others just stay up at night playing Dogfight.

When I released the preliminary version of my age-distribution chart, there were some hints of a senior-citizen peak at 65+.

It seemed logical that with more free time on their hands, people might spend more of it on games. There may still be a peak, only so far the numbers do not support that conclusion.

I see you left off my age group. First flew at 15 for fun. Then the war happened. Born: 1896. You figure it out.

Well, I may have been mistaken to think that I could cut off the chart at 90. B). I thought numbers would be too small.

If you were at least 15 at the start of WWII you must be more than 87 by now.

If you were born in 1896, you are Besse Cooper, who is the only verified living person of that age in North America.

First off youngin' 87? Give back your degree. Secondly, who said anything about my second war? Thirdly, I don't need anyone to verify how old I feel. This girl Besse...is she seeing anyone?

But, if I read your message as a riddle, you may be hinting at a famous aviator born in 1896... Let's see, I'll have to look it up.

One great WWI ace who was born in 1896 was Ernst Udet.

I don't know if this YouTube link will work here, but let's give it a try.

Aaahhhh.......you are not as thick as you look. There is hope for you yet. Did you recognize my flying style? It saddens me to see how old war made me look. As I watched, I remembered long gone friends and fellow pilots. Thank you my friend.

Do you play chess Sput? Very similar. You can outsmart a veteran gunner. Always remember your mission. Is a tank a problem in the mission, if not let it be. Sometimes a long dogfight is necessary, but remember if you have to get that bomb through, hit and run. You as a pawn, can still checkmate!

Lol, anyone here an old enough player to know ernst? I mean the one on the forum, not the 130 year old one. ;) he left just as i joined, like too many aces. Gyshan, for example. I think i first played on december 11th, and that was his last visit day to the foum. :P

I like the idea of an age distribution chart. I think it's a good reminder of how young some players are and that older players need to remember to keep it clean.

Thank you.
To do it you cross-control. Ailerons left, rudder right. Full back to stall. Slow to walk speed for landing. Repeat.

There seems to be a surprisingly high percentage of middle aged people here. I don't know how that would be with other, similar games?

The present age profile is based for the most part on information taken from this forum.

Which would perhaps underrepresent the younger players? They may be good at shooting and less so at writing, I mean. :-)

Thank you! You've all been added to our increasingly reliable statistics!

The median age is 27, wheras the arithmetic average is about 29.

The age distribution now looks increasingly like a classical bell curve with a top at 40-44 years, but with three conspicuous extra tops, the highest one at about 15 years and the other at 25-29 years superimposed on it

Jacob10000! You're just past the horrible 20-24 year dip in our age profile. People of that age are as rare in the dogfight community as the ~50-54 year-olds, who I guess find their work increasingly taxing and are starting to look forward to retirement.

What made you take up Dogfighting?
