Thanks for the cooperation!

I have received enough data to present the first tentative age distribution histogram for "Dogfight players".

Quite a number have sent me their ages already, but the data set is not yet large enough for statistically significant conclusions, except for the obvious peak at about 13 years of age. The second peak, at 40+ years, is also probably real, and I should think that the one for 65+ players is real too.

Needless to say, the word "population" in the histogram means those who have sent their age data to me. It should not be misinterpreted as meaning the "general population". B)

Have you seen the WW1 Aviation documentary "Four Years Of Thunder?" There is some great vintage footage of Pegoud thrilling the crowds with his aerial escapades. He was a true hero and no country had a passion for aviation like the French in the period before the war. For anyone interested in WW1 aviation this is a must see. It is posted in segments on you tube for anyone interested. The quality isn't great but still worthwhile. Roland Garros was a great hero as well and his capture led to the development of the synchronized machine gun which revolutionized aerial combat.

You're perfectly right of course. I blush in shame.

I originally intended to have Garros as my avatar, but in the end I settled for the photo of Pegoud.

You're also right that it better to write in English in this forum.

My first guess was Roland Garros when you posted your yahoo.fr email address, hence also my question if you were French. Both are heros of aviation and models to aspire to.

I think it was Garros, who was successful as a teacher of young pilots, who published a tactical code for dogfighters, which gave details of what to do and not to do in order to survive in a dogfight...

As far as I remember it, you were to try to fly either very high, or if that was impossible, very low, because both strategies gave advantages. Also, you should not meet an enemy head on, because you both risked a collision and you ran a great risk of being shot down. Wait, I'll look it up. :-)

Ehm, I didn't find it. I might have been thinking of the better known set of rules that Richthoven's teacher Oswald Boelcke set up. :-)

Excellent fighter tactics for that era. I think the range of our machine guns should be quite short. It would eliminate the need for ballistic drop, and make head on attacks suicidal. Everyone would have to really step up their game to win in aerial combat, and the best fliers would quickly become apparent.

I like that idea becuse I swirv around people bulits when they come at me and them I I pull hard in stick puting them in sights fire a burst and fly away. I am not good with long range but I can get you in short or medium.

I agree with you 100%! The only practical way to make the shooting more in line with normal physics is to limit the range of the guns to say 400 yds

Thats true, but that takes a dimention away from the game. You'd eliminate a very viable way to kill your enemies.

I agree with calvien thoue game is good the way it is. If we changed it we would realy hurt wat up dogfight becuse he kills you the moment you get in range at long distance. So I saw we drop this and leave it how it is becuse leaving it makes it a challenge. You shorten the distance of rang and game would work to much in my favor.

I would to becuse if there is a player like Dawson where it takes for ever to get them in a turning fight I will just take care if them in a head on. I can finaly beat most people lol. Thought it was impossible for me to aim this good.

Well we can't really be sure. I haven't played agenst you or with you since I got my aim better, so we don't know yet. But i did lean a head on trick wich helped my get wat up dogfight 3 times in a row in a head on. It works very well all you got to do in it is be quicker than your oponit once you close enuth. Its worked on ever person that I have yoused it on. Very few people have been abel to counter it. They may be Abel to counter it once out of two times.

I agree, it works well the way it is, although it may not be all that realistic. :-)

But doesn't this discussion really belong to the thread: "ballistic drop". :-)
