I'm not particularly fond of hunting, but I shoot skeet and some targets occasionally... So who here likes guns? What kinda guns? Do you hunt, or just shoot for fun?

ummm, pedrinho, how are guns only for US citizens? How does an enjoyment for things that go boom discriminate or refer against any other nationality's basic rights in a manner deemed offensive?

The simple fact that you asked it shows how little is your knowledge of other countrie's way of life, shows how much ignorance resides in the heads of gun lovers.

Guns do not equal violence, any more than cars equal crashes... And far more people die from car crashes than from guns. As a loyal believer that self defense is a basic human right, i will not continue this discussion. This thread is exclusively for Non-violent use of guns.

Hey Ped, take it easy. Mac ment no disrespect towards you, your citizen rights nor anyone's national rights. He's just trying to find anyone with similar interests. I see no harm with this thread and if it's expunged it will open up a can of worms meaning they'll be all kinds of similar subjects in threads past and present brought up and made examples of being similar.
Let's not start anymore heated debates. I think we've had more than our share already.

Many users on this forum are from USA, and you tend to have a slightly different view of self defense, and guns then the rest of us,(maybe I generalizes a bit ) and that's what causes the ravel I mentioned earlier.

As we have a lot of folks with a lot of different ideas on things, I'll just caution you to be careful in your gun discussions. I've been lucky enough to remain friends with some of my polar opposites here. I've learned how fast the discussion can go downhill first hand. I will te you, the Jolly Roger thread is very pro gun, so don't hesitate to post about the subject there. Just don't be attacking anyone else in a personal way if you do post. Personally, I'm a cold dead hands type that many like to mock, but I can take it. I'd rather be dead than to be someone's subject or property. So, just in case anyone wasn't sure where I stood.

I'll caution you though Mac, this subject tends to heat things up, so don't be shocked if you get some heavy feedback.

I enjoy shooting guns. 9mm self defense pistols, 9mm rifle (a little unusual but hey universal ammo strategy at home), .22 target pistol, 20ga shotgun. It's nice to see so many gathered here who like to shoot pretend, virtual guns in a virtual dogfight.

In real life, I advocate responsibility, because, like driving a car, owning and shooting a gun carries a MASSIVE responsibility. That responsibility includes handling my firearms safely myself, and not letting others have access to them. One primary problem with the tragic Connecticut school shooting was that the mother let her son have constant access to her guns. Whether his access was forced on that fateful day, no one is certain; but up to that point, she was giving free access to someone who had no business using firearms. Somehow the media and public has missed this key point. That lady was setting up a horrible day for many kids and their families.

Anyway, just like I don't advocate banning knives because of the Pennsylvania school attacks, I don't advocate banning guns. No, I don't believe that dead school children are a price for freedom, as some say. Nor are dead school children are the price for allowing drunk drivers on the road. I believe in gun registration, background checks, and waiting periods. Heck, we have that for cars. (Well, actually we don't have background checks or waiting periods.) But if you break a gun law (and there are plenty of existing ones), hurt someone, or give easy access to someone, you should be in jail for a long long time. And when you get out, your gun rights should be taken away. Just like for cars. (Oh wait, we don't even do that for cars. Well we should.)

Uh, sorry, that was bound to come out in this thread at some point. I am just responding to the inevitable call-out. By the way, lots of people disagree with me, and I don't have the final word. Just one guy's opinion.

Manfred, while all of that sounds great, the human element gets in the way. Give one guy power over another and things just start coming undone. That's why I prefer the right (not privilege) as it's written: "shall not be infringed". But, I tend to think most gun laws are unconstitutional. As far as more laws, how's that working out with the drug problem?

My solution (oh what a barbarian some must think I am ). Screw banning guns etc... If you kill someone, and are found guilty in court based on a large amount of evidence (ie public slaughter at a mall, school, with multiple unrelated eye witnesses etc) then take the guy to the courthouse square and hang him. Make it where everyone can see, and let it serve as a warning that such things will not be tolerated. There are about a billion ways to kill someone. Guns just happen to be convienient for most, but in the absence of a gun any old thing will do. Banning the gun doesn't really stop anything. Making consequences real, clear, swift, and known does. As far as the suicidal mass murderer, your best defense is some fat guy like me with a .38 in his pocket who can and will neutralize the problem in a hurry. You simply can't outsmart crazy. What you can do is a double tap into its center body mass.

If my hard line on things is hard to stomach, please understand that I have lost innocent people in my family to those who had no conscience or soul, and I have defended my family with a gun (at quite a young age) also. Best defense=good offense. Not everyone shares most of the folks around here's deep respect for human life. So yea, I tend to be a hard ass when it comes to the defense of one's self and one's family. I also believe on a larger scale when one's "rulers" want to be the only ones armed, they don't mean their people well.

What are amendments all about , aren't they changes to or clarifications to your constitution .
