grilling season is fast approaching. sitting in the garage and listening to baseball on the radio is a favorite activity of mine. and if i'm outside, i may as well grill. here's a recipe for corn that uses a grill. the corn is cooked mostly off the grill, but after you've taken the meat off to rest, use the rest of the charcoal heat to finish the corn.

4-5 ears of fresh sweet corn. shuck ears of corn and keep the stem on.
8oz cream cheese. softened in microwave or if you're feeling fancy, a double boiler.
Parmesan cheese to coat
paprika to garnish

bring one gallon of water to boil in stock pot
add cleaned ears of corn and boil for 15 minutes. this will mostly cook the corn.
place corn on hottest part of grill and turn often until lightly charred
remove from grill and spread on a thin coating of cream cheese
roll in parmesan cheese and sprinkle with paprika

this is definitely a preparation that favors the use of gloves, as it may be messy.
i usually make this if i am grilling outside and eating inside.

i am impressed reaper 6. zang! looks like you threw down on the breakfast side of things with ease. thanks for sharing the photo. perhaps i should look into a manicure...

plus! 2 things. keep the photos coming. i like to see what people are making and ordering.
and i wouldn't be against changing the name of this thread to something better. i am quite unsure how to do that so any advice would be appreciated. i was thinking "the mess hall" or something that doesn't make peoples' minds wander. i'm open to suggestion.

I love cooking & backing, but I really love raising & growing my food: I have lots of fruit trees, a berry patch, a large garden, pygmy goats for milk, chickens & turkeys for eggs/meat, I had pigs... and that's all I eat on my farm, I like riding my horses to much! ;)

one of my favorite fresh herbs is basil. yum! here's a cool marinated strawberry recipe you can easily make from your herb garden and berry patch.

one pint strawberries. sliced.
10 leaves fresh basil. sliced into ribbons.
1 and 1/2 tablespoons white sugar.

combine all ingredients in a mixing bowl and let sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes. once strawberries have released their juice, you're ready to rock.

i like serving this over vanilla ice cream, but anything will do. it'd be good over a cake or even by itself. hope you give this a try baroness!

hey all, here's a recipe i got from a df player by the name of revin from the foreign legion squadron:

Chicken Adobo style

1tbs peppercorn
Salt
1 thumb big ginger sliced into pieces

How to cook :

In a large container combine soy sauce and garlic then marinade the chicken for 3 hours or over night
Place cooking oil in a pan apply heat
When oil shimmers

Small town update 2014

hey gang. i went to stay in a small town last night. what's the first order of business? make dinner of course! i explored the grocery store there and was able to come up with what i am gonna call a sausage prima vera. the real star was the sausage of course, made right there in the market, very cool. i picked up a red pepper, some sugar snap peas, an onion, mushrooms, and garlic. for the sauce, simple olive oil and butter, but i added about a tablespoon of brown sugar and some dried herbs. top it with some feta cheese and we were in business. not too bad, and there was even some leftovers!

i made this for heather for mother's day. she isn't my mother but a mother indeed so she fit the requirements. ha!

a steak cooked rare, potatoes with thyme, whole vidalia onion, and a vegetable medley sautee. yum! it's funny, i made hamburgers for the kids and they came off with excellent grill marks. then i did the steaks on a colder part of the grill i guess. a delicious meal anyhow.

it is grilling season and would love to see peoples' backyard creations. i will post more grilled items if it ever actually gets warm here!

i made this fruit salad as part of lunch today. sliced strawberries and kiwis with basil. the dressing was olive oil, a bit of salt and a violet flavored balsamic vinegar i picked up at a store downtown. was quite easy to make and as i whisked the oil and vinegar together and watched it thicken up i knew i had something nice!

edit: if you make this salad make sure to slice the kiwis a bit thicker than you think they need to be. i sliced one of them too thin and it kinda broke up as i mixed everything together. fyi
