I had asked Snid for some suggestions on where to buy boomerangs, since I wanted to try them out so I could better appreciate a possible hand-made beauty by The Man himself. You can do this many different ways, but here's what I did.
www.boomerangman.com was one of Snid's recommendations for someone who sells boomerangs that work. Rich Harrison owns the shop, and he is a class act. I ordered some bundles from him, a combo of a Darnell Tri Fly and Pro Fly, and a two-fer of a Fun Fly foamie indoor tri-blade for the kids. Separate descriptions are here:

Turns out the foam indoor 'rangs are so much fun, I am confiscating them from the kids. Mine! Mine! Well, maybe that's because my yard isn't quite big enough for learning how to throw a boomerang. But with some indoor skills, I was able to quickly learn how to throw the Darnell Tri Fly. The Pro Fly boomerang is going to take some work, plus I think it needs a little wind or at least some blade tuning before I can get it to come back to me with no wind.
Here's some low quality video clips pieced together: First is the Tri Fly in my side yard. I actually caught the Tri Fly on this attempt. The second clip is the Pro Fly boomerang, which flew around and hovered, but got caught high up in the big palm tree. Good thing there was construction debris lying around, and I was able to poke it down with a long piece of pvc pipe. The final few clips are in the family room with the Fun Fly. The kids love 'em, and I love 'em even more. I couldn't wait until the kids were in bed so I could throw them around. Actually my 8 year old came out of her room wondering what I was doing. Busted.
