Don't know the first thing about boomerangs, hell don't think I ever saw one, but what you did here with this act of generosity is cool man.

Uhhmmm, that's not an intricate design at all is it :woohoo: wonder if it can be printed on transparent film and glued on...speaking of printers, wonder if you could just make a boom with a 3d printer. ..prob wont be as strong though...just my lazy mindset at work :woohoo:

Well you probably could make some with a 3d printer but what is the flex and durability of the items made? If I explained all the stuff that went into making a MTA style molded competition boom you would wonder why anyone would go through all that effort but to get the final product it is what is required. The specs of the epoxy alone are mind boggling, then the unidirectional carbon fiber, the micro-balloons (glass spheres) of 2 microns in diameter filled with lighter than air gas as the filling...They say those are the worst part..they are nearly invisible and when you open the container they float all over...they get in your eyes and break, they get in your lungs...horrible!

You shouldn't really need gloves for the one you have but make sure it's in the hover stage when you try and catch it. What I mean is at the end the boom should sort of stop and just helicopter down to you...catch it then only. I catch them full speed but I don't like my knuckles anyway :)

Well, I went out to the local high school football field to try throwing again. First throw it landed twenty yards short of my position, second throw it hit the ground about forty yards in front of me and snapped in the middle :(. I guess that's it for me until I build a tri-wing and start practicing fast throw.

I'll take pics when I get home tonight. I don't have any CA that's fresh at the moment, I wouldn't trust it to hold. How would epoxy do?

On the bright side, I threw one of my discs 95 yards.

Well if it fractured on a sharp angle there can be a fair amount of surface to bind the pieces but if it's pretty straight it's done...the only repair is very thin carbon fiber sheets on either side.

I'll go ahead and say it.

Don't you think it's a bit much asking Snide to paint the Sublime logo/psychedelic art on a craft he's already trying to share with the forum?

Cut him some slack and try decorating yourself, no?

Already?! Did it hit the ground just right -- or did you bend it in the past?

Hahahah, I always find myself needing gloves when I think I don't need them. And sure enough, when I put them back on -- it glides in smoothly. I can't seem to win, so I prefer the pain of no glove returns. It's never ending fun with my the boomerang, thank you so much Snide.

Now -- I do have a question. While I can get perfect returns as I wish and I understand throwing completely, I have something I really can't seem to master:

How on Earth did you get your fast catch to fly that fast in your video?

My seems near that speed -- but usually returns in 6-7 seconds. In your video, you were getting 4-5 on each return. I've tried throwing harder but I'm met with inacurracy. I try adding more "whip to the wrist" and find inacurracy. I try doing both -- same thing. Only when I throw normally can I get it to return.

Any tips on maximizing speed & accuracy?

The phenolic isn't really "bendable" it has a lil flex to it but its very rigid stuff. I'll probably repair it and display it on the wall, while I start playing around with different materials.

Oh you beat me to it, my sentiments exactly. Sometimes the too-ready acceptance of a gift conveys some lack of appreciation. Not saying that's you sp33dy, but it's good to be aware. A dose of humility can never steer you wrong.

Me, my plan is to find a half decent boom and learn to throw it, to gain some appreciation of the sport before I humbly inquire with Snid about his fabulous creations. Since I have no current hands-on knowledge. (I've already communicated this to him, thanks Snid!)

Well when you look at the path that the boom makes does it look like you have it on a rail? It should be pretty much the same height all the way around. Also there is a lot to be said for spin! That is the key to all boomerangs the more spin the better the flight. When I first got into LD (Long distance) I bought a boom capable of 130m+ and could never get it all the way back. I thought something was wrong but it was just me. After more and more practice it was my ability to create spin that was lacking. To give you an idea the distance record holder can make my regular boomerangs go around twice!

Yeah it's paper phenolic so it ca break and that stuff has a bit of carbon in it to make it a little more stiff. G10 or aircraft grade plywood is the most durable.
