Actually Jacklpe, if it doesn't go as planned you lose no money because nobody who pledged is charged if the funding goal is not met. What we all will lose (pledgers and non-pledgers alike) is the ability to keep playing and enjoying this game if it does not go as planned.

1: The contributions are going to the creation of Dogfight Elite. Dogfight Elite is being marketed as a new and seperate game from the one we currently have. Many of the stated rewards for the contributions are allowing a player a part in the creation process aka: There is no Dogfight elite currently... The money will be paid if the contribution goal is met.... Then we have to trust Zuperman to follow through with the creation of this new game. Obviously I believe him, because I pledged. But, if Dixie's parents don't want to fund a new project, then that's their choice. As for saving our current game, I've read all that Zup wrote and I respect it, but he probably better be very careful using funds that he raises very specifically for a "new" game, to "save" the current one. In all of the sales pitch on his kickstarter page, saving the current game is not a stated goal. I'm sure he has that little item under control, but it is still an "item". I understand that the new game will eventually be used to replace this one, but by everything I have read it is still a seperate and new game.

2: As a 14 year old kid, he needs to do what his parents tell him to do... Maybe that's lost in the brave new world we live in, but its the truth. I contributed 100. That's more than enough for 1 person... That's why I told him it that mine could "stand" for whatever he might "owe" too. If we lose the game, we lose it. I would hate it, but life will go on. But, no one needs to be teaching him how to undermine his parents over this.

Jacklpe I responded to your specific statement that you will lose 100 bucks if the goal is not met. Not true. I was not telling any kids to disobey their parents. :)

Bopes, I think Dave's point was that thereis a "risk" that if you pledge AND the project is successful, Kickstarter will charge you for your pledge. At that point your money has gone to the project. BUT we still have to trust that Echoboom will come through as promised. We trust that they will, but there is a "risk" that they do not. That's the "risk" Dave has referenced.
Fuck this place. Second rate hack playing in a yard that's too big for him.

My misunderstanding then. Here is the risk/reward equation as I see it:

Goal not met, no pledgers lose any money, but game (as is) shuts down permanently. That's the immediate risk.

Goal met, pledgers pay their pledges, and game (as is) continues while DF Elite is developed and released. That is the immediate reward.

Granted, there is a more remote risk that Z might burn through the 125k and still be unable to deliver on the promised DF Elite. In that case you could say the pledgers lost their money, but at least everyone is able to continue playing the game as is for more than the next 7 days.

I probably shouldn't say anything but I want Zup and the dogfight community to know I've been working on a house sale. It would have been a sizable amount. I'm sorry to say it fell though Friday. There was another buyer but that's been 2 weeks ago now, But will give them a call Monday to see if their still interested. If can unload this thing ill match Paul's pledge. But to all here please note at this point it's a long shot. Sorry I couldn't have good news today. And yes I enjoy this little game that much. It's all about having fun in ones spear time, as you get older theres alot less of it to enjoy.

I agree, yet here's how the conversation feels to me:

Me: The sky is blue

Answer: No dumbass, the sky is blue.

Me: That's what I said!!!!

Answer: Hey stupid, the grass is green. I never said anything about the sky.

Me: Yes, grass is green, sky is blue. (Long dissertation about why and how I totally agree)

Someone else: Dave... Sky is blue you know...

So, here is the part where I throw my hands in the air and walk away to go beat my head against the wall.

Back to my fake bar now.

Hey Zup,

Is it possible to restart the timer? Since the first the goal was not met, people will get their money back and turn around and donate again (I know I would). I think now that the word is out there, you might be able to get a little more money.

Also, can you make the donation window longer? Asking to get more than $4,000 a day was a bit ambitious, so why not ask for the money over a three month window.

As a last ditch effort, instead of shutting down the current version of dogfight, could you start a new kickstarter for less money just to keep the current version running?

Anything? Please don't let this game end. I don't know what I would do with myself.

I think that's an amazing idea, I know i would try to pledge to both, and that would mean that we wouldn't lose the dogfight we already have!

how about one of those extremely wealthy billionaires. The ones with full war bird collections. Tank restoration garages. And huge personal military collections. Seen a show on some of these collections. Maybe if these dudes saw what dogfight elite has to offer. They may want to contribute. Would be a tax right off for them if they choose to advertise one of there ventures or charities. I don't have the time or the knowledge to track a billionaire down though kestrel. I challenge you to try. I donated $ 125 bucks and encourage all to donate as well. $1,$5,$10, it does not matter how much, just help out with what you can. This has been the cheapest entertainment I ever got. Cheaper then going to a movie. With original life time membership and all plane upgrades for what like $20 or whatever it was. I have gotten around a years enjoyment. What a bargain. Zuperman I strongly hope you consider charging a monthly fee for dogfight. With this many gamers even if 3/4 of the people left because they don't want to pay, that would be 25% of the 3 000 000 players you said play would pay. Hell even if 1% only payed $1 a month. You do the math. I myself would pay $10 a month and would not batt an eye. There is no reason a great game like this should not be making a proffit, and it should not becoming out of Z's pocket to maintain and upgrade. Please consider this as an option and please dont kill dogfight. I apologize for the length of my usually short reply but I love this game. I

If someone has the juice to contact Kermit Weeks, owner of the Fantasy of Flight Museum in Polk City, FL, do it. Ask Big Tex... He probably has that kind of juice. Anyway, Kermit Weeks is one of those guys you speak of Clay.

I agree if the money we raise isn't enough to make Elite can we use that money to repair the existing Dogfight or a make kick starter program or whatever we need to do to save Dogfight?

Hey Z, you got to save this game, i donated 500 already and if you get close to your goal then i will pledge another 500. I can't put it in the credit card right now, my wife would beat me like a red headed stepchild lol lol. Anyhow i do pledge another 500 to be given in a few weeks. Ok. I cant put it on now because im in the process of a major property refinance and they are looking at all expenditures.

SAVE THE GAME.

Although I'm not an expert in such matters, I'm going to say no. It has been raised for a specifically outlined goal. That doesn't mean he can't come back and ask us if this falls through though.

Right I understand that if the goal isn't reached the money is gone but what's another 30 days as we are and by then we can raise what we need to fix what we have. How much can that cost? No extras.

Can we open just a PayPal account or something since I imagine Kick starter has some marketing advantage behind it and saving dogfight isn't something they do I would bet. So we open some donation site and hit whatever goal we need to save our version?

ok, i agree this is a great game, but i would never be able to stick with that. my family is VERY strict on money because we're going through hard times, and a monthly ee would kill me. please dont suggest that again...that would kick me out of the game:(

Zup, I wont send you a PM; rather post it publick.
Is there any bloody reason to not make the current game a montly-fee one? Geez, it is so obvious and simple! As many of us already talked about, if 1% of players pay 1 dollar a month, you can make this game better, can make Elite work and perhaps buy that boat in the French Riviera!

And about phantom fighter complain, maybe you could even give free-subscriptions to young players...

I took the RED PILL!
