Oh, Tad, the new custom banners are for M.O.M MORAFs (and Star Chamberers) only. Just a little something to signify the accomplishment of Level 31ing. I'd create one for every M.O.M but I'd miss the original recipe banner design and frankly the custom jobs are a lot of time and work.

Anders, this is bound to be a tough room for edgy, aggressive, in-your-face hip-hop. Die Antwoord, the South African rap-rave act featured in my banner and in the vid clip Anders posted (from which the banner was copped) is intentionally confrontational. They blew off a major record label deal, said nope-rah to Oprah and met Lady Gaga's invitation to open her tour with a scathing go-to-hell video. The "albino" clip Gary the Parrot posted is not an official vid, I'm not sure what that's all about. Die Antwoord collaborates with noted fine art photographer, Roger Ballen, whose work influences their visual style. This one is probably the most representative:

Vesa, it's about the music business and the art business. Specifically it's about a musician/artist telling the record business to f*ck off. This band was pressured by their major record label to "make your next single more generic". Instead of giving in to money and morons, they broke their contract, started their own label and recorded this song...a direct address to the "business"...as that next single. It's largely in Afrikaans but the thrust of the message to the system is pretty clear.

Just so's you knows: we've had a couple back-channel complaints, only two and both from the same person, about the music videos posted yesterday and today. No complaints on the thread, no other messages to admin/Mods, but I want to reiterate that not everything posted on the M.O.M thread is equally suitable for all ages. Please be sure to post a disclaimer in front of anything that might be deemed inappropriate. (I've gone back and done so on the posts in question) Best not to post inappropriate material, but art being what it is "appropriate" is in the eye of the self-styled art critic. We don't acquiesce to one individual's taste. That would be caving to the C word and censorship of the many by the few doesn't play here. Keep an eye on your kids and what they're viewing online, it's your responsibility. These clips have been posted thousands of times on Facebook where there are no age restrictions, either. It just occurred to me that the video for Fok Julle Naaiers by Die Antwoord that was posted and re-posted here features not one but two different songs. The first is confrontational, the title being Afrikaans for "F*ck all you f*ckers" and the song directed at censorship and the soulless business end of the music business, but I feel strongly that it's artistically challenging, open to viewer discretion and subject to taste. The second song in the segue is not something I'm comfortable with being posted on this thread. I urge anyone curious enough to seek it out on Youtube and make that determination for yourself.
