Manfred , :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Soooo you let your battery die on your quad? OOOOps.....lol... haven't done that yet

The Cub.... Hmmm, ya see I fly to take things off my mind like Work, DF (LOL) and other things. This day it wasn't working so I put flaps down half and was doing a long wide approach and thought this plane is bigger than some of my others (depth perception difference). I thought, am I over those trees or between myself and them all the sudden..... BAAAAAM.... Yep bigger plane, depth perception, thinking about work,, you know just not with it....LOL

The Quads and Hexa are just a hoot.
What's your take on the FAA proposed Rules? I sure would like to entertain the idea of some kind of business or be able to help the local vol fire dept out in someway.... At this point that's all illegal now...
I'll ck this thread out once in awhile... gonna be gone today...

Hey fellow RC pilots!!

Glad to see a thread on RC!! I have a small collection of gliders and electric planes that are my primary source of entertainment.... besides Dogfight now.... lol

and that is how I found Dogfight.... looking for a sim to 'stay fresh' with in the rainy season....

I tend to fly on the smaller scale of planes available just to keep the repair costs down and the storage and transportation easier....

Some of the greatest fun ever is to Dogfight with foamy planes!! Knock each other outta the air for points or play last man standing!! just have to loop or roll before contacting another plane....

Have you seen the world record for the fastest RC airplane at over 500mph with a glider!! Dynamic soaring is very exciting and addicting.... I wish I was any good at it but I spend more time on retrieval and repairs than flying when I try LOL....

My next plane is going to be an Albatross, just can't decide on buying the premade foamy or to actually take the time to build one from plans.... maybe both is in order!!

The FPV stuff is just flat fascinating to me and on my someday list.... got a mini quad but it is tough to keep in the air.... so much constant throttle adjustment needed to stay level....

Thanks for sharing your pics and adventures in RC!!

Dent,

The battery was an odd thing. It had been a while since I'd flown the quad, so pilot error abounds. Either the battery has a loose connection to one cell, or my balancing cable has a loose connection. There wasn't much damage from the crash, but dirt was everywhere! This was back in December, and with holidays and everything it was probably 5 weeks before I had everything torn down and cleaned out. The quad apparently landed flat against the hillside, bounced, and flipped. That flotation styrofoam block I have strapped to the belly likely saved the day - cushioned the shock, although it also caused the bounce.

Anyway, that battery is now retired, although I still see some weird charging errors that indicate a loose connection, probably in that balance cable. So maybe the battery was ok, but I'm not going to chance it.

The Yak is flying squishy in elevator. If I get inspired, I'll add some reinforcement across the elevators, but at 3 ounces, the plane gains weight pretty quick and even a carbon rod will change its flying. It's been repaired so much, I think the little Yak might be done. But it's been a great little plane, and I've learned (almost) to hover. Almost.

The FAA proposals are very limiting IMO. They basically require all of it to be line-of-sight. If I wanted to fly LOS, I'd fly my RC planes, not the quad. The purpose of the quad is immersion FPV flying, at least for me. I've been active in the fight, but it's clear that the FAA is not listening very well, and has its own agenda.

That looks like a pretty good job on the Albatross!! how well does it fly?? slow and floaty or do you have to keep the speed up??

and some of my smaller planes

That is a great collection!! wish I was even half that organized!!

How is that A10 Warthog?? had a glider like that years ago but it was out of 'regular' foam and it got pulverized on its maiden in a dogfight....

Hey Manfred and all
Please pardon my jumping in here.... I assume you are way head of me on this but just wanted to share an avenue of resistance to the FAA power grab.... AMA membership and RCGroups.com both are very powerful voices for the hobby... and RCGroups.com has very active threads on the issue and tons of info on everything RC....

ok, I'll shut up and go fly....

Nebulas, LOL, no need to shut up..... enjoying the conversation..... :)
That's a small A10 I'm still working on (modifying). I need more aileron control. I have another A10 I've maidened that bigger. I'll post a pic later.

Manfred,
I know what you mean with the FPV and the FAA. I'm still trying to plow thru the 195 page proposed rules. I do appreciat the fact that a Private Pilots license won't be necessary.

I am so glad someone started a thread like this. I thought I was the only one who liked RC COLA, It is grteat that we can come together and talk about our love for this wonderful drink. Some people look at me funny when I tell them that it is my favorite drink, but at least I can come here and find comfort knowing I am surrounded be like minded individuals. I would like to thank all the members who have posted here............ Uh Oh, I,,,,,Uh,,,,,, Er,,,,,,Sorry, I should go. Carry on. I still love RC Cola. I will start my own thread, and not bother you again, Sorry.

This is a favorite. I used a GWS kit and added Brushless motors and modified a battery holder using a Blade 350QX battery tray. I worked on A10's in the late 80's, alway's one of my favorite planes.

Larry G, If your talking about the Sopwith Camel rebuild, that thing fly's like a barn door flat against the wind... I love it. It's hands on even on landing until you stop. I haven't flown it since the rebuild. I added some weight and more cables on the gear (more drag). Should be interesting... :)

I bought a Hobbyzone sport cub s rtf last week and it has exceeded all expectations. I plan on adding larger bush tires soon but it fly amazing. The safe mode is great for flying in tight spaces and builds confidence very quickly.
