T-Rex, ok first lesson is it should be YOU'RE not YOUR.
Ok let's discuss altimeters, and let me explain things as a licensed pilot.
First let's just say that the big hand pointing at numbers is in hundreds of feet, and the small hand is thousands of feet, very similar to reading a clock. If the big hand is on the 3 and the small hand is on the 6 it would be 6:15.
So as you gain altitude you'll see the big hand turning, when it reaches the 1, then you're at 100 feet, when it reaches 2 you're at 200 feet, all the way until you reach the 0 again, and by then the small hand will be pointing at the 1, thus you are now at 1,000 feet.
With all that said, when you look back at your screen shot, the small hand is just past the 3 but not quite to the 4, which means you're between 3,000 and 4,000 feet. Now look at the big hand, it's pointing just past the 4 which would be just past 400 feet, maybe about 410 feet. Combine the two and you end up with 3,410 feet of altitude.
For you to be at 4,000 feet, the big hand will be pointing at the 0 and the small hand will be pointing at the 4.
I will post a screenshot soon (when I get to my ipad), which will show you what 4,000 feet looks like.
