I don't know, the elections we have every two years to vote for our congressmen, and every four for our President seem to be working just fine...
In a free society, the rule of law works, although not always as perfectly as we'd like. If we don't like our government (local, state, or federal), we have the right to change it, and we do whenever we feel "ok, enough". I wouldn't call China a government that is open and free, and to comnpare it to ours makes no sense whatsoever. The Constitution is the tool we use to protect the people, and it was to the Constitution and all that it represents, that I swore an oath to serve and protect many, many, many, many years ago. I would agree with you more if this was Iran, China, Sudan, or any other country where dissenting voices routinely get put down by their governement. As long as we can still parody and make fun of our leaders and watch SNL skits about them Saturday nights, I'm good.
