*Jon* Hunt was a Dogfighter who was a 16 year vetran sniper w/ 96 kills. His spotter tripped an IED, killing him, and blowing off both of Jon's legs and one arm. He played DF with one hand, and was a seriously great player. He recently passed away from a lethal infection.

There's no update for Appel.

Total new train of thought. When I first began to read this post (wasn't a seperate MOM squad yet, we were still in the forming stage) I think I read some back and forth from some members who were saying that they were surfing on the southern coasts of England...

Did I read that correctly? Can someone please tell me who that was?

Just had a whole bunch of fun games with lots of folks including (over various games), hansone, mean ole, sput (incognito), a kooky kid named Air Princess, and lots of others apologies if I don't recall everyone. But the last one was a rare treat: Calvin AND his old man (who should be in this squad) Gunmonkee. I hardly ever see those guys.

Anyway thanks all!

I told my dad he should join you guys, but he doesn't play very much, and I'm not too keen on him coming on the forum.... That'd end badly for me. :P

What was Sput playing as?

Poppa Michael Smurf has brought up a good question: can we come up with a way to keep track of M.O.M impostors? I was, like Sput, flying incognito all day and my one good typing finger was a bloody nub from having to constantly say, "No, seriously, it's ME, Wig!" So how, now that we've grown in numbers and have authorized MOM's who might well be unfamiliar to one player or another - keep ourselves aware in easily accessible form of the faux MOM's skulking around? I'm stumped but there must be something we can cook up. Other than Tex throwing the losing volleyball playing sheep on the barbecue. It just ain't safe to be a volleyball playing sheep out there nowadays...

Suggestions on the M.O.Mpostor Hitlist, please.

By the way, ewe06 or whatever it was sounds suspiciously like an incognito volleyball playing sheep...hmmm. And YOU MAD BRO? appears to have blown Big Tex clean off the Top 100 list. Just like . spork did to me. The nerve of these punks...

Who is You Mad Bro? Haven't played him/her, but the name cracks me up! Wait... Is that Big Tex?

Regarding Desert Rose, I seem to recall from several months ago that he is a young man from Japan. I was impressed that he was able to communicate a little in English (I would not be able to do so in Japanese, that's for sure) while he smeared me all over the sky.

My sheep, they were lost, then found, they learnt to play volleyball (badly), now they are tossed aside, thrown like so much meat, upon the burning coals of Big Tex's BBQ! Oh how I weep and wail at such ignominy as this, for I am not offered even one morsel of their charred.....and really tasty flesh, with a little sprig of fresh plucked mint if you so please. YumYum!

Not everybody believes in Jon Hunt. Faith is nice, but it is only through doubt that you find truth.

Faith is about believing without the need to know or seek any truth, for many that is truth enough.

Simmo, if Jon's story was true that still doesn't define "the truth" of it. If it wasn't true does that make the grief of the people who knew and liked/loved him in this game any less real? You're failing to respect the feelings of people here who lost a friend. I find killing, any killing, morally repugnant. But I'm not gonna piss on your parade when you talk about your fallen soldier friends whose valor I don't happen to accept as empirical "truth" anymore than I do the "kills" of an alleged elite sniper. I'm sure to you they were admirable fellows. To his friends here so was Duckwing. Personally, I barely knew the guy, that lets me out. So...he might be a housewife living with her five kids in a bungalow in Des Moines. So might you. At this point you're just working overtime to burst the bubble of some folks who are still saddened by a death. What's the point? There are so many more productive applications for your truth-seeking doubt; corruption, cruelty, greed...murder in the name of "justice" or "duty"...don't you agree that your energy could be better spent? With all due respect, let these online friends of Duck mourn in peace and move on to other topics, please.

I take your point Wig. But why should different moral standards apply here to the real world? You can accuse me of just seeking to burst the bubble of well meaning believers, but that is not my purpose. The real truth, not a chosen truth, is important to me, as it should to all of you. If anyone has doubts about my credentials send me a pm and I will be happy to fill you in. I will also explain where I have been and how much time I have invested to try to PROVE Jon's story.

Sorry MOM, all I can say is - if you believe Duckwing1 you deserve him.

Yes Simmo, let it end here, for the sake of friendship's you have, don't throw those away over some doubt you have. Maybe not everyone believes in the truth of Jon Hunt/Duckwing1 but I think a far greater number do believe with unquestioning faith, let it remain that way.

Simmo I to am a former military man and I to question the story based on my connections and my background in the armed forces. So while I agree with you as far as the story goes..Like i said earlier I have my own opinions on the story If he wants to pretend to be an elite sniper in the army then he made that choice sharing it with us some belive it and im sure most military men wont belive it.Could it be true only he knows that awnser.I will not pass judgement on anyone.the story lived with him and passed with him.who knows if even his name was jon..all I know is his name was duckwing 1 a good pilot and a friend in the game.I know your passion as a former or current military man you dont want the service to be dishonored..I to feel the same way but in reality there isnt a damn thing we can do about it.whats it going to prove to anyone in this game if duck was a fake.
All i know when people ask me about my service and what my MOS was I share it with them some may belive me some may not.You can tell a solider just on how he or she awnsers the questions thats where I have a problem with the story..EXAMPLE...M.O.S/A.I.T where you were stationed the units you served with where you were deployed rank etc.etc. I couldnt get any of those awnsers..And I to was in a SPECIAL OPERATIONS UNIT serving in shit holes all over this world but shared all that and pics. But thats my story belive it or not frankly he dont have nothing to prove to his fellow M.O.M'S ...PEACE THE END.COOP IS DONE WITH THIS SUBJECT FOREVER.

Simmo, I hope you know by now that I respect your right to express your views. But they are, after all, only personal views of yours. They aren't the truth. You can't prove a negative. The fact that you've worked so hard and failed to turn up the evidence you're seeking supports Jon's story as much as it debunks it. The whole thing feels like an exercise in pointlessness. I'm not lobbying for different standards between this online community and the real world, I'm merely saying it's a dead end, so let it remain dead. Moral Standards is nothing if not a gray area. What's morally acceptable to you is not always so to me. I don't doubt your credentials, I was just making a point. The internet's veil of anonymity offers the opportunity to say whatever you please, however untrue, without fear of repercussions. But in the end he was a person who claimed certain experiences and credentials that neither we nor you can prove or disprove. However well meaning or truth seeking your motives, they're in disregard of the feelings of people who played with Jon and are sorry he's gone. No one is saying the truth is less important to them than it is to you. I'd be grateful if you would acknowledge that, and them, and let it rest. Comments like "if you believe in Duckwing1 you deserve him" are purely to serve some personal purpose, whatever it might be, of your own and are, frankly, a little unkind. Is this really the most useful way you can find to invest so much of your time? I find that difficult to believe.

Simmo if you believe there is some kind of absolute truth out there (and I don't mean AbsolutionMbizzi ;) ) then you are as ignorant as the rest of us. I am sorry for your suffering.

Like Wig I barely knew Duckwing. The military story I heard about only through others' comments, not Duck's. If you look at his forum posts, they are devoid of any claims to having been an elite-military-sniper-with-96-kills-whose-spotter-stepped-on-an-IED-killing-the-spotter-and-blowing-off-3-of-Duck's-limbs. Maybe the people who say that Duck said those things about himself are telling the truth. Maybe they are not. I can't prove it either way, but I have no reason to disbelieve that they heard (or saw) him say those things.

What Duck's written forum posts DO speak of is that he suffered. And he suffered mightily. And he loved this game. And he loved us all. That's what I personally reacted to. During the few times I did interact with Duck in games, he never mentioned military service. Mostly he just cracked wise, like the rest of us. Sometimes he would apologize for being too tired or in too much pain to play well. One time, when he was flying unbeknownst to me as Fifty Cal, he reached out to me. He said bopes it's me Duckwing. I said hey! He said tell B Strachan I'm going back into intensive care for a few days.

Maybe he was lying about the military story. Maybe like Wig says he was a housewife in Des Moines. :) Or maybe he was in the military, but got his injuries in a drunk driving accident or some other ignoble way and was too embarrassed to share that. Or maybe he told the truth, or as much of the truth as he was able to or wanted to share. Who knows.

But I don't think he lied about his suffering. We all suffer. If there is a single absolute truth, it is that we all suffer. You do too Simmo. My heart goes out to you.

Bopes, freedom of expression is understood, but If he claimed to be a 9/11 survivor and your best mate or brother was a NY fireman whose remains we're never found, how would you feel?
