Striker, I was thinking the exact same thing recently. As a matter of fact, this thread has been actually more busy of late.

The fact is, the M.O.Ms who I think visit the forum have a different idea of what composes a quality post. Some squadrons use their threads to constantly compliment each other. Others use theirs to talk about feces. Still others like to organize an entie month of meta-gaming and schedule it. I like to think that M.O.M members prefer to inject a little more quality content into their posts, and it speaks volumes that we are still the second-longest thread in existence. We discuss music, art, sports, and life in general, not just whatever springs to our minds.

However, to make us feel better, here is a screenshot I just got of a game I unfortunately didn't have time to finish.

I was having a stellar game, with one death being by crash, and downing the world's 7th-ranked player mere moments after he entered my radar three times. One of those games I was on a roll, but was unlucky enough to have to exit.
You're getting predictable, guys. You can do better, right?

I can think of distinct instances where we compliment each other, talk about feces, and meta-gaming. Quality, now let's talk about quality. A couple posts ago Paul put a picture of my 12 year old face on a body builder. Wait, where was I headed, that is quality for us...

Thanks a lot Gaw, looking forward to flying with you too. I'll remember to not wear polyester when we eat beans next time.

Thank you, sir. I'd pretty well assumed you were largely serious.

Say Mr. K, we need to fit you for a new banner. The original model is, of course, the epitome of timeless elegance, but I'm sure you've noticed a slew of new layouts that've entered the mix since you took your breaky. M.O.Ms who make MORAF still get the full custom treatment but we now have six or eight designer styles for active non-MORAF M.O.Ms on the go.

And they looks like this:

Style 1

Style 2

Style 3

Style 4

Style 5

Style 7

Style 8

Style 9

Choose the one that strikers you as "you" and let me know, then set up a free photobucket account and I'll email the new file to you.

This goes for all M.O.Ms level 0-30. If you'd like a banner upgrade say the word, your wish is my poor time management.

It's great to have The Striker16 returned to active duty on the thread, and I was double-dog delighted to see a founding member of M.O.M, Seattle, back from the M.I.A. list today! Very cool!

At the time I type this post, the only players online are Wig, Ishan Sang, and I. The lowest number of online members I've ever seen at once.

So, um... Hi Rick!

Hiya Mac! At this point I believe you and the other lurker are gone...just me and the "guests" left. So...

It's Earworm time!

What I regard as among the most beautiful of the golden age standards, sung here by a somewhat unlikely suspect if all you know her for are the later saccharine Rock Hudson rom-coms. She was one of the better "canaries", the vocalists with the big bands throughout the 30s-40s. Billie Holiday's may be the definitive version, or Frank's or Ella's, but this lesser known side is one of my faves...

The clip isn't showing for me, Ed. I've noticed the same thing in a few of your posts. If it's a youtube link and you're using the little "Video" thingy, be sure When you embed the address that you change https to http.

Wig, I'll take a number 2 with a side of fries. Oh, and a cake. A large one. Not like those cheap ones from wal-mart. It has to have skittles on it too. Lots of skittles. Now I'm hungry. Oh, I'd also like the momzilla banner underneath mine too. Got to fit in.

Excellent choice, Kyle. Hit me with an email so i can send you the new file: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Wig, Billie will always have my vote! Thanks for the clip, Rick. I ran across a CD of my late father-in-law's band. If I can work out the technical bit, I'll try to post for your listening enjoyment.

Striker, I always enjoy a good #2, especially first thing in the morning.

By Parrotical request sorta...

She recorded this tune several times, the first has always been my preference. Once you can begin to hear the wear and tear of self-abuse in her voice - which is tragically early - she becomes tougher to listen to on certain types of arrangements.

Jazz vocal aficionados tend to break down into two camps, those who regard Anita O'Day as the white Billie Holiday and those (myself included) who think of Billie as the black Anita O'Day. Both were ahead of their time, both much more jazz instrumentalists than mere refrain singers in bands, both insanely self-destructive. Anita managed to survive herself with her voice not only intact but better with age...sadly, Billie was not so fortunate.

BLAST YOU, RICK!

You got me in a mood...

If you enjoy Billie & Ella, you need to check out a modern day version. She's worthy of Super MOMdel banner too (That's a bonus).

Diana Krall

Give her a listen and you'll immediately see the influence of not just Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald, but Anita O'Day, Mildred Bailey, Nina Simone, Bessie Smith and others.

Easy listening, but hard hitting jazzy blues with a "Big Band" style band (that doesn't overpower her) behind her.

Here's a link to her version of Julie London's "Cry Me a River". Try it, I dare ya!

I'm well familiar with Mrs. Elvis C., Gary. She's as close to the real deal as the 21st century has on offer, fersher.

I tried posting an Anita clip in that last one...is it me or can you not embed more than one youtube link per post?

Pretty sure Diana Krall has recorded this one...

I discovered Anita as Gene Krupa's featured vocalist on early '40s 78rpm records I started collecting as a kid and Krupa fan. No idea who she was but I found out as quickly as you could in the pre-internest era. I only got to hear her live once on a double bill with Count Basie, whatcha call your unforgettable evening.

I came across a video with Diana and Mr. Costello singing "Crazy". I would've posted that one too, but willie Nelson was part of it and I was afraid I'd be assumed as one of his fans.

Here is a topic thread for us... What are the top 3 travel experiences of your lives? This is a diverse group, so I expect greatness! The Lawman Clan has been blessed with some serious world travel. The little deputies are both adopted from Russia, and the little deputettes are adopted from China. Here is the Lawman Clan at Red Square: Jet12345 is the little one in yellow and Legless has the gray hat with flames on it. Next is the Lawman on the Great Wall of China spreading truth, justice, and the American way the way only a fat savage can! The final picture is a little slice of Heaven on Earth that Mr. and Mrs. Lawman thoroughly enjoy. It is known as Cayo Levantado (raised key) in the Dominican Republic. Of course, it goes without saying that Texas is a huge slice of Heaven on Earth...

Wow, Tx. Those are good pictures. You're a regular world traveler now, aren'tcha?

Unfortunately, in my house, finances are a bit tight, and have been for about the last 17 years, which is about my life span to date. I'm assuming I'll get out more once I can get a working vehicle, but the extent of my travels out of Wisconsin is Devil's Lake, ND in the West, Canada in the North, and Green Bay in the East. I've been in the grand spankin' total of three states and two countries (if Canada counts.) I would just like to thank you for the reminder of just how boring my life truly is.

As far as this jazz music that's all over this thread goes: I haven't taken the time to listen to any since Yemmers' rendition of "Love Song." I'm far from an expert on the Golden Age. I may have to enlighten myself.

Tx, I've probably been in more places outside the states than in. I've been in at least 11 different countries and 4 or 5 continents, not including Maine (and that's foreign enough to be it's own little country).

Lemme see.

US
Canada
Mexico
UK
Spain
Greece (and I think Albania, but borders were a little unclear)
Bahrain
Djibouti (Pronounced Ja-Booty. In Africa and easily one of the saddest places on earth)
Egypt
Oman
Saudi Arabia

(Loosely foreign countries/territories)
St Martin/San Marteen
St Thomas
St John
St Croix
St Kitts
St Somewhere (Several stops throughout the Caribbean, cant remember them all)
Virgin Gorda
Puerto Rico

I think I'm forgetting some of the major ones and certainly some little ones, Like Gibraltar. I didn't step foot on its soil, but I was close enough to see the monkeys.

My favorites in no particular order are:

Mexico
Spain
Greece

Anywhere in the Caribbean is a real close runner-up.

I don't think they had invented cameras back then, but I'll look for some pics to post.

One of my most favorite experiences was in Corfu, Greece, staying at backpackers hostile, the name of which I found out later translated into the Pink Palace. That's a story for another time, but I will say I found Santa long before this stop.

Parrot- We love the Caribbean too, obviously! I would love to go to Greece or the Mediterranean side of Spain. One of my favorite book series was set in Malta (AJ Quinnell's Man on Fire). It sounds awesome. My hometown university, UNT, was home to the Turkish Institute for Police Studies while 50 some odd Turkish commanders were getting master and PhD's. I made a lot of friends. We will be hitting the Med at some point!!
