Hear Ye! Hear Ye!
I was commissioned to prepare an official Wolf Pack Crest by Digger. I am honored to present this final format.
As some of you know, I am a passionate Genealogist. Genealogy (from Greek: γενεά genea, "generation"; and λόγος logos, "knowledge"), also known as family history, is the study of families and the tracing of their lineages and history.
Heraldry is the practice of designing, displaying, describing, and recording coats of arms and heraldic badges.
Historically, it has been variously described as "the shorthand of history" and "the floral border in the garden of history".The origins of heraldry lie in the need to distinguish participants in combat when their faces were hidden by iron and steel helmets. Eventually a formal system of rules developed into ever more complex forms of heraldry.
Though the practice of heraldry is nearly 900 years old, it is still very much in use. Many cities and towns in Europe and around the world still make use of arms. Personal heraldry, both legally protected and lawfully assumed, has continued to be used around the world. Heraldic societies exist to promote education and understanding about the subject.
The Crest I prepared has several facets that I would like to explain a little about, so that all of you have a better understanding of why I chose to use the symbols within. Throughout this process, I consulted our CO Digger, and XO Viper. and together, we created what you see before you.
The Blue and Red Shield represent Loyalty(Blue) and Strength(Red). The Arrows designate us as a military strength. The Black and white wolf colors represent that we are not prejudiced against color, creed or origins. The Celtic knot on the top right represents the Brotherhood of Man. The representing "yin yang", describes how apparently opposite or contrary forces are actually complementary, interconnected, and interdependent in the natural world, and how they give rise to each other as they interrelate to one another. In short, the whole is greater than the assembled parts, which is an intricate part of being a member of the Wolf Pack. The White wolf also wears a necklace cross. From the very beginning of Christianity, believers were using the sign of the cross as a means of protection against evil. The top scroll obviously shows our name, and the lower depicts our Motto in Latin. "United We Prowl, Together We Howl"
I hope this gives you a better understanding of why I chose the included elements, and why it has a deeper meaning. I hope you choose to embrace this symbol as I have, and adopt it with pride.
With this being the "Official" crest of the Wolf Pack, we respectfully ask that all other previous designs you have seen here on the forum pages, be deleted and their use discontinued. Thanks much.
