I agree I never expected squad wars to be a point game only that served to hunt new players. I was hoping it would be 4 vs 4 between squads. It is my hope that Zup plans this in the future. Right now WW1 is full of new players who are gunned down for pts and WW2 is mainly where top players fly on one side. I do switch if needed, but the I like one plane and we were given choice to PLAN Squad wars.
The poor sportsmanship has gone on for too long and limits the quality of bringing in new players to squads. WOLF PACK has been lucky in finding some fantastic new players, but it's hard to go into WW1 and watch the blood bath.
I'm hoping WW1 is left for new players and not a kill-zone only for top squads to earn points and bad mouth the noobs. Perhaps it can be suggested to Zup to move Sq. Wars to WW2 only and new players left to be in WW1 until they are ready.
In the mean time I will do what WP has always done--fly into WW1 and chat with players, help them and cheer them on when they level up.
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooOOOOOOOOOOoooooOOOOOOOOooooooOOOOOOOOOOO
I read this last night and wanted to add a few comments.
Dire and tbuilt are spot on regarding the recent poor sportsmanship driven by some folks who are point-driven, motivated by the squad war ranking system to dictate their style of play. While it is important to play to gain points to contribute to our squad wars tally, it is more important to maintain our style of play, specifically WP's commitment to fair play and respect for all players. That respect is just as important to a player who is in his first few minutes of df as it is to someone who has been around for years.
I frequently visit WW1 for games due to the WW2 games being either empty or one-sided. I understand folks have only one aircraft upgraded, a favorite plane, or just want to fly with their friends and/or squadmates. No big deal, and I encourage all WP guys to fly on the same team. While in WW1 I get games with plenty of players, and if they are low ranking I will do my best not to shoot them. Sometimes I fly without firing a shot and just dodge bullets to try to reach the objective. Its fun and challenging, however it contributes very little to our squad wars total. Sorry gang. Also, WW1 is a great place to watch newer players, see how they play, and scout possible recruits. Please don't visit there with the purpose of increasing your point total, kill total, or strictly to win, that isn't what our squad is about. When you folks do venture into WW1 make sure you say hello, cheer on the new guys, congratulate them when they level up, give pointers, etc. just as Dire has recommended.
While historically there have been folks who have taken their lumps as noobs, got slaughtered, but continued to play and are now top guys in various squads, I believe most will simply leave the game if those are the majority of their initial experiences. More players equals a healthy game into the future in my opinion.
Do I care about our rank in squad wars? Of course I do, but it doesn't dictate how I play this game. I may lose a point or two here and there but it is in the best interest of the game and our squad. That's my take on the whole thing.
Thanks for the post, Sir Dire. Sir TBUILT, thanks as well for bringing this situation to my attention. I had never considered flying in WW1 just to gain squad war points. That stuff wasn't even on my radar.
