Well I guess I will post about my latest venture. I have always had a calling to work with metals. Even as far back as high school, my strong points were in wood shop, metal shop, and drafting. At the time I put most of my focuse into drafting and wood shop, thinking I was going to be a custom cabinet maker. Boy how life changes after high school!!!!
Ok ok ok getting myself side tracked. Well anyways Metals was such a breeze for me, I would do whatever project "licitly split" then I would go next door to the wood shop and work on whatever project I had going on (yes I was the metal/wood shop teachers pet... He was a bad ass and most kids walk on the otherside of the hallway from him.) For a kid in highschool with real sketchy past (court ordered to this highschool out of my district) It was a real cool feeling to have the run of the shop(s) and get called on to help the students that were struggling (the friggen smart kids lol) with learning whatever craft we were working on.
So here we go.......
I have been wanting to make some really nice knives for years. My father is "The Butcher" and knows his way around a blade better then anyone I know. So I would like for them to be a thing of beauty and usability. I have done many "Sling Blade" style "Zombie Killers" in the past and/or drop an edge on anything that would make a cool blade, but this will be something for my friends and family.
This all started with some scrap steel. I am in the proccess of teaching myself about all the different metals/steel and how to identify them. From the color, texture, and characteristics of the spark when grinding. From what I can tell this is a "high speed" or "tooling steel".
So now for some photos

The finished blade is my inspiration, the look and design I am after.
