I tried to teach him. Not sure what language he /she speaks. I will put a short ban for a few hours to see if that helps? First thing we should do with lower ranks is try and help! cfl is probably one of those. He seemed to be locking on to a target and just firing. I saw him briefly shoot at red and then mistakenly shoot at Calle very bad move. I know to us experts it's an annoyance but you have to remember when we first started. Getting them here makes them Aces quick but how? I tend to watch them first to see if they are really just team killing for fun or out of inexperience. The best thing we can do is be nice at first so they realize we want to help.We tend to assume the worst and I have found after finally communicating it usually isn't.

I agree with you Kevy. Many times for these REALLY new pilots they have no idea who they can shoot at until someone tells them. I typically explain that blue are your team and to shoot at reds and only bomb the enemy not your own base. That usually does the trick to help and they usually say "thx, Swop". Otherwise, like Kevy says, they are ingrates.

Kevy did that all through the 1st round with the guy. During the second round he started with me. I just got myself banned. That's ok. I don't really care how you guys choose to deal with him, or if. I just figured I'd better come on here and do some splainin why mean ol Jacklpe was shooting up some poor new guy. That's all.

I have found the same thing. Let them (new folks) know gently and generally they "get" it. Then, "Shoot red. Or die!" If they shoot at me again...shots across bow. Most stop. If not....
Same for bad/rude names. I've looked at some other games and it seems anything goes. When we let them know this is different they seem to get it.
I'll suggest it again:
Post the rules "style" of "our house" on the front page or even better, a quick page of it's own. 1 extra button touch (you need the excercise anyway) is better than the 7-10 just post a complaint. Think of the time flying wasted.

The rationale behind it is that if someone who is much better than them, who does not show up on the "radar" in the form of an arrow to guide their defense, hounds them so they can't play, maybe they will google the phrases we use and realize that they are not getting it right.

Ok, maybe I just enjoy shooting them.

Either way, I like how we self police our game, even if I think it gets a bit ridiculous sometimes.

the last one I warned first by saying I will own him, said come on back then. . so I shot em till he left. .spawning the heck. out of him...vigilante? maybe ...but it was a quiet game after that. Like Jack said..I just like shooting them..if a auto message and a quick burst doesn't teach them.

You know......how bout if you're one of the first in a game or the last original..that its decided automatically that you're the team killer killer!!!..which means no red can shoot or destroy you in game..And. said tkk is still a functional player with his duties to the mission. And if a tk shows up. well there you go..no truces..no unneeded bans...its taken care of and play continues.

Above level 4 I agree with legend and Jacklpe. It takes a day or less to get to 2 and maybe two or more to 3. So what I'm saying is give them a week to straighten out then blast them from the skies. I can usually get out of the way of aspirant bullets if I really wanted too. So an occasional ambush is small price. Plus them killing me ranks them up faster! Kind of fattening the hog! I don't really watch my K/D ratio anymore. Trying not to crash but my new tundra tires sure make that tuff.

In fact, I just booted bobward22 from the last game I played. Endless use of c-word, very abusive of everyone, homophobic comments, and when warned he said "Go ahead Id like to be banned." How convenient! Gee Bob, I was only going to mute you, but by your request, you are banned. Indefinitely! Don't go PM'g Zup or mods, just come post here. Should be good entertainment value.

Hey manfred would just like to thank you for getting on that so fast real apreciate it.

It's come to my attention that Pistol Pete is unhappy with his ban. Ok Pete... I outed ya. I wasn't trying to be sneaky, I just figured the two sexual references that you made in game werent all that cool. I also didnt think they were appropriate content for the public thread. This is a family show, ya know? Anyway, cause I'm kind of a mellow guy I decided not to say anything, cause you seemed to chill out at the end of the game. Then, wonder of wonders, you went and tanked your own last hangar, thereby screwing everyone else on your team. At that point, I figured you were just another troublemaker and maybe one of the mods could help you to overcome these multiple bad habits. If that pisses ya off, sorry, but this is a family show... Remember?

Anyway, after reading your post on the other thread, I'll admit, maybe you got lost in the tank and went the wrong way or something. Either way the bigger point is that there are some pretty young kids on here, and I'm sure when they take the trip to the principals office for telling the teacher what color it is .. ... ...... (Fill in the blanks), their parents are probably gonna nix their dogfight privledges. I'd hate that for the kid. We try to be reasonably kid friendly around here. But, I would stop my kids from playing if they were picking that stuff up on here.

I go to work every day saving lives, but remember it's only a game. If the only thing you can think of is to report people for playing a game because you thought they were doing something wrong without asking them first for an explanation...well now!!! Dave was the one who reported you, and I was the one that acted on the report and banned/muted you.

First, I think Parrot's attempt at guidance might have better used the word "humble" instead of "apologetic." You're right, if you don't think you've done anything wrong, there is nothing to apologize for, unless and until someone points out what you forgot about, and everyone goes "ahh now I remember." But up until that point, a little humility goes a long way to finding out what someone else thinks happened. Humility keeps a person from being all big and bad in denial, only to say later, oh yeah I did do that.

I don't see a trace of belittling tone in what Dave wrote.

Thank you for your service, but it's not relevant here. Your words and actions were observed by themselves.

Finally, as you say, it's just a game. It's just a game that kids play, and it's just a game that kids and adults all agreed to keep clean and not disrupt the play with offensive talk. While you say that the hangar kill was an accident, it was not observed to be one at the time. There are lots of players who do this purposefully, and unfortunately, when someone (anyone) is observed doing the same actions, all we can do to keep the game clean is to report and ban. Players often take that medicine and wait out their bans. Others come on the forum and explain, and if it sounds on the up and up, then we'll shorten or remove their bans.

As for asking, there's usually enough volume of reports that we don't have time to ask. Plus, few enough players are on the forum, so there's no way to ask. For these players, a ban or mute is the only way to ping the player. Maybe if Z gave the mods access to email addresses, we could ask -- but that would triple the tracking and time spent, and I also don't think it's good for mods to have access to emails. So we're left with the current approach, which does not include asking.

That's about all I have to say about that.
