why do you want to join the marines
i wanna be an air force pilot because i like flying and the point of stunt flying to my stepdad told me i should join the coast guard because they fly all year round and do some dangerous stuff like fly through hurricanes and more but when theres a tornado in lets say afiganisatan the men on the ground wont receive any air support so good luck cause seeing a war cause im pretty sure by the time we join the minitary there wont be another war ANYWHERE. i just wanna fly and do something and die more harse than the army and marines cause when you crash if you crash then you die in a fireball but when you crash land you might have a chance of living

I'm just a History Channel warrior, so I don't know what I'm talking about either.
Just to be clear, I hope that someday mankind will grow up and see that there is no real military solution to the problems we all have.

In the meantime I just love the quotes that we can enjoy about the military.

Can't find the scene on Youtube, but in the tv series "The Pacific" after the US marines land on Guadalcanal and are pretty beaten up, they are passed by the army in trucks, and the CO says to his men: "To them we might be just a bunch of raggedy assed marines, but we look this way for a reason."
And: "The army has their supply logistics, but we are marines......we make due."

In the end it all boils down to a combined effort.......and it turns out that it's mostly the big corporations that benefit from a military action.
Wars are not just won on the battlefield, but it's all about who's economy can endure such a waste of means the longest or if the sacrifice is percieved as being still worth wile. Soldiers are just expendable to the few that benefit from a war.

The problem is that many idiotic leaders are just content with seeing the world burn, no matter the cost to their economy or the suffering of their peoples. Greed, hunger for power, vanity, religious fanaticism, feelings of racial or national supremacy, and fear are not really worthwile causes to let your children be sacrificed for.

So as long as there are idiots that start wars, there may have to be others that stop them with idiotic means, because it's the only thing the idiots understand.

Two Marines boarded a quick shuttle flight out of Dallas, headed for Houston.
One sat in the window seat, the other sat in the middle seat.
Just before take-off, an Army soldier got on and took the aisle seat next to the two Marines.
The Soldier kicked off his shoes, wiggled his toes and was settling in when the Marine in the window seat said,
“I think I’ll get up and get a coke.” “No problem,” said the Soldier, “I’ll get it for you.”
While he was gone, the Marine picked up the Soldier’s shoe and spit in it.
When the Soldier returned with the coke, the Marine in the middle seat said, “That looks good, I think I’ll have one too.”
Again, the Soldier obligingly went to fetch it and while he was gone, the Marine picked up the soldier’s other shoe and spit in it.
The Soldier returned and they all sat back and enjoyed the rest of the short flight to Houston.
As the plane was landing, the Soldier slipped his feet into his shoes and knew immediately what had happened.
“How long must this go on?” the Soldier asked. “This fighting between our services?
This hatred?
This animosity?
This spitting in shoes
and peeing in cokes?”

I'm currently stationed in an Army base, that is under jurisdiction of the Air Force, and is occupied by the Navy. For the most part, we all get along, and the soldiers and airmen I've met are very humble. Sure, we joke and squabble with each other over which branch is better (Army vs Navy football teams, this Saturday; GO MIDSHIPMEN  ), but it's all "one team, one fight".

The biggest conflict I've ever been a part of here was when we decided to hang a banner across our barracks wall to face the Army's side of the complex, and it read "GO NAVY BEAT ARMY". The next morning, it mysteriously disappeared. So, in the terms of our Marine brethren, we chose to "adapt and overcome"; and spelled out the banner in our windows using holiday lights.

Your move, Army.

And to Viper10: Thank you for your service, Senior Chief.
