Hey everybody, I like fun facts, so, I thought I might as well share some knowledge with those of you that are interested. Each day, I plan to post one fact, everyone feel free to post facts that you have VERIFIED, for I do not want inaccuracies and misinformation being thrown around :)

Today's fact: an octopus (as well as the squid and horseshoe crab) has blue blood, becuase unlike human blood, which is iron based, their blood is copper based, and when oxygen comes in contact with copper in the bloodstream, it turns blue :)

Since you're on an animal fun fact kick, here's a couple.

A polar bears' skin is actually BLACK!

Also, their hair is NOT white! It just looks that way.
Each hair shaft is pigment-free and transparent with a hollow core that scatters and reflects visible light, much like what happens with ice and snow.

Today's topic is also about the octopus ;) An octopus has three hearts, which also has to do with their blood. Copper based blood doesn't carry oxygen as well as iron based blood does, so the octopus has three hearts to pump blood extra fast in order for the vital organs to get the needed oxygen :)

Hey zeb, I read somewhere that in the Chicago zoo, the polar bears' hair turned green because algae was growing inside each hair!!

Wolf Packs usually consists of 8-15 wolves and they structure from a alpha wolf or alpha pair to omega or lone wolves. The alpha wolves are those of dominance in the pack and sometimes have betas or second in command of the pack the omegas are the wolves that succumbs to the most aggressive attacks in a pack and in some case they tend to be come a lone wolf then go on to mate with another omega or lone wolf successfully and become a alpha themselves and a alpha may step down in old age to avoid blood shed

This one is for ZebraUp B) Zebras have stripes as camouflage (despite having odd colors for the job) that distort each zebra while moving within their herd. Lions and other predators alike cannot pick out one zebra, and hunting becomes very difficult, but tigers use the same thing with their stripes to hide in tall savannah grass :)
