It's a Girl!!!
The McFate clan has another member! Thanks to all the few of you who have been listening to my on-going drama in real life. We have just been granted permanent guardianship of our foster daughter! While we were fairly sure that things would go this way it was not official until just today. Yay!!!!

Aww, that's amazing!
 We liberate from our negative will to nothingness, and once having said yes to the instant, the affirmation is contagious. It bursts into a chain that knows no limit. To say yes to one instant is to say yes to all of existence.

Thanks everyone!
This has been a long process. This poor girl was being used as a welfare cash cow by her drug addicted mother. She had been left to live as a house maid to many different houses, many drug dens etc... always a place where her mother could threaten the people she was staying with to keep quiet so the mom could come and go as she pleased. She narrowly avoided being sold more than once. The true shock came as we started working with social services to try to help this girl. We discovered that this is horrifyingly familiar to many who live among the rest of society. Ptsd and lack of healthy adult support kept her quiet. Even her teachers and school staff had no idea. She was a cute punkish quiet girl and nearly fell through the cracks. She is a good girl and has been living with our family since last May. Through counseling she has found her voice and is learning to stand up for herself for the first time in her life. Please, don't be afraid to reach out and look into kids who appear to live in questionable circumstances. You may be the help they need.

The funny part of all of this is that about 3 years ago my wife went through "the baby Jones". All three of our boys had reached the point when mom was no longer "cool" and she was feeling desperately like a 5th wheel. She hit a point (which I called insanity) and was begging me to consider having one more baby.
 Our youngest will be 18 when I turn 50 so I think this is a great time to stop."But it will be the mellow girl that I always wanted..." pleaded Mrs McFate. I told her that the only way we were going to have a daughter was "if she came to us as a teenager".  Watch what you say!  Instead of getting pregnant, my wife went back to school and got a paralegal certificate from UC Berkeley and specialized in family law. "Ari" came to live with us just after that and now Mrs McFate has won her first two cases. First was a civil harassment restraining order against the mother and the second is now the guardianship. Not only do we now have a teenage daughter but several attorneys have offered my wife a job based on how she handled the cases.  We are celebrating! Edit: Yikes! Just to be clear, this all happened by coincidence and the outcome was in no way intentional.

i know a guy who adopted his daughter and he has a "gotchya day" celebration every year. it's maybe even more important to him than her actual birthday. congrats fate!
