a quick question.....
If the servers are all around the globe, does it make sense to log onto the one closest to you for the least possible lag??
If I'm on west coast USA and log onto Vimy and some one from across the world logs onto Vimy in the same game, aren't they going to lag a bit?? likewise if I log into a server labeled europe or asia, won't I be the lagging one compared to a 'local'?? or is it too small a time to matter??
Yes, you have to log into the server nearest to you for faster connection. The problem is that if someone from Saudi Arabia logs into that server (horrible speed for US), then he lags a lot and you think you are lagging too. Lag is the connection between all the players. That's why it's impossible to solve completely.
That player should connect to the server that's fastest to him and you should connect to the one that it's fastest to you. But right now people randomly connect and sometimes you get that weird super fast personal connection but an enemy that is jumping all over.
What I will probably have to do is eliminate all server choices, no more artois, messiness and so on. And then let the system pick the fastest server for you automatically so you can't pick one that is hyper slow for your connection and slow every other player.
