Here's a thread for the fishermen (or fisherwomen) of DogFight. After seeing another thread jacked by fishing enthusiast, I figured I'd give us a place to lie post about the fish we caught or the one that got away.

I'll start with a couple pics I've probably already posted, but seem appropriate. I will warn you though, just viewing these pics may make your device too heavy to hold...

This is an interesting method. Usually takes me 10 minutes, this guy does it in no time.

Pretty cool Ali...

I'm a saltwater guy, but I'm betting that'll work with croaker or spot. When we fish the sound or Intracoastal Waterway (ICW), we catch a lot of blowtoads (blowfish aka norther pufferfish). Cleaning them is super easy and even quicker than the vid you showed. You use a knife and toad tool (see vid) or a pair of skinning pliers and it literally takes 5 seconds. Seen some guys that are even quicker.

As I said, I'm a salty dog. I don't fish much in fresh, but we did take the "big" boat out on our summer vacation to Lake Gaston and fished a little.

Below is the keepers from one night. The little fella is my youngest boy and the bigger one is Parakeet.

Serial spamming the thread, but its mine!

Ali, we take an annual trip on a head boat out of Morehead City every June. It's usually Father's Day weekend, but this year it'll be the week after, June 22nd. It'll be Beanboy, Parakeet and me, but I have a fourth spot reserved. It's only a few hours south of you. If you want to join, it would be really cool. PM me and let me know.

The pics I posted above are from one of those trips. Here's a few more from another trip or 2.

This is what parakeet caught at the dock before we ever left... A little blue fish.

This video made me giggle like my 5 year ol daughter. Never seen anything like that. A toad tool...wow! Great pics of the catch and family. We don't have nearly the abundance up here, but I may have to dig up a photo of my 500lbs tuna catch. It changed me, not the same man anymore. Pretty sure I have some back damage from it but man was it worth it.

Love to join y'all but doubt I can sneak a second fishing trip in. I'll be in OBX from June 6th to 11th so some pics to be posted on this thread for sure. Speaking of Bean, where the heck is he?

He's not flying as much and doesn't hit the forum even less. If he comes over on the weekends we'll usually fly together, but haven't seen him other than that(here).

The spots open if the stars align and you can get away. I have up until 48 hours before the trip to cancel it. OBX will be nice, summer flounder should be off the beach by now, maybe even on the sound side. Drum and maybe even speckled trout are possible too.

Well, I guess I can check off "fishing in a hurricane" from my bucket list.

This is yesterday before the storm.

sea bass? Pretty fish, not even appetizer size though. This guy went back

Catching two flounder with one cast

...and here comes the storm

Check out these "extreme parasurfers" In all likelihood, they waited for this moment all their looney lives. I waited all my life to see them slam into the piers pilings but unfortunately that did not happen. :woohoo:

Nice Noushy! That's a Black Sea Bass for sure. He is a little fella. I don't think I've ever caught one in the surf. The bigger ones are a few miles offshore. I'd have to check to see if they changed the regs this year, but they have to be 12" to keep. (Real inches, not wife inches). Glad you got a line wet before the storm hit.

The kite surfing/sailing looks like a load of fun. I'd love to try, but not sure the knees could handle it. Down at the river (mother-in-law's backyard) there's a couple guys that do it. Love to watch 'em. They actually jump over small islands. I've seen them get 15-20' of air in a good wind. I've also seen one playing at the start of a storm like that and nearly have is arms ripped off. Still looks fun.

I'm an enthusiast myself when it comes to Salt Water fishing- I love the sport and the rod bending apatite. There's just nothing better than sitting on a pier or laid back on the beach surf fishing. It's definitely my outlet: Mostly landing all my catches at Sebastian Beach/pier- Melbourne, FL
A couple of Jacks

Night time - the hunt for Reds

Black Drum

Yea, but Sebastian = snook! I love it down there, cept for those d$&n no-see ums. They will kill you there. I was getting real serious about going to Titusville and going shrimping from that new pier they have up there. But, after I bought my own truck, I just haven't had time. I think a trip to Sebastian may be in order pretty soon though. I haven't wet a line in way too long.

Do you have good luck w/ the reds off of the pier there? If so that's VERY interesting!!! Or do you go farther up into the more shallow parts.

Whitey's used to have a good diagram of the inlet on their website... Maybe I need to take another look.

Oh yes, the time is coming in about another month those red wilk be running, the bigget red i caught was around 54 inch, didnt have anything to weigh her with at the time. But until then maybe next saturday ill take a ride out. Usually whiteys you can hit in the morning, or hang on tight if those jacks are swinging by. There one of the best fighters.

I love catching jacks. I finally even learned how to cook them! Build a nice fire on the grill. Use about 2 tablespoons of olive oil and then put the fish in while its hot. Use some seasoned salt, and some lemon juice about halfway through cooking. Finally, put in some garlic just before you are finished cooking. When the fish is thoroughly cooked, remove from heat. Take the fish, wrap in a paper towel, and throw it away. Eat the skillet and enjoy!

Jack, I use the same recipe for striped (jumping) mullet, only I add a little fresh cracked black pepper.

Thanks for the giggle!

Jdewey, please share. This isn't just a salt water thread. Don't care if its a ocean, lake or duck pond. Post it. Your welcome.

Danny,
About your comment in-game about the blue. That one was only 5-7lbs. At the right time of year, you can hit him 15-20lbs in Hatteras. That size don't often make it my way. Where I usually fish, they're only a pound or 2 at most, but that one was in Morehead City, near an ocean inlet. The mates were cutting bait before our 18hour trip and throwing scraps over the side. It was a feeding frenzy. One of the mates threw chunk of bait on a treble and tossed it over. He handed the rod to my boy (only about 9-10 at the time). He had the butt of the rod under his arm and when it hit the rod slammed the rail and through the lever action, lifted his little arse right off the deck! Thought he was going in! He fought it on his own though, for about 5 minutes. He had jelly arms when he was done and was shaking all over. It was the biggest fish he had ever caught. That was one of my favorite moments as a Dad. I knew right then this was going to be an annual trip.

Noushy, the spot's still open and you have dibs, but if any one else is interested and Noush wusses out on me, I have an open spot for a relatively cheap adventure (YEMX?). The trip is an overnighter June 22/23. Shoot me a PM.

Danny, here another pic of a nice one...

PH, much as I would love to go, apparently I'm not allowed to pull another one back to back, something about anniversary, oh shoot that reminds me, got to go get a gift for ze wifey. Guess sea shells wont cut it this time

I'm a river fisher. I've looked for the pic of my catfish from about 11 years ago but can't find it. It's on a printed picture but when I find it I'll post it. My wife was there too. It's on a picnic table. 47 lbs flathead. You could easily fit a basket ball in it's mouth. Meat was kinda tough though. She originally hooked it and gave the pole to me after about 5 mins. It took. A long while to bring it home.

I currently fish in the Atlantic, Gulf, a lot of brackish water, a few lakes near the house, the Spring and White River in northern Arkansas, and in my grandmas stocked pond in Kentucky. I've also extensively fished the South Fork of the Kentucky River for smallmouth, and grew up fishing for bass, trout, crappie, and catfish all over Arkansas. I've even thrown a line in the Mississippi River a few times. But, my Grandma's pond is still one of my favorite places. I love digging a few worms and sitting in front of that pond with a cane pole and just wearing them out. It's the first place I ever fished when i was a little kid, and I still love it today. My point: feel free to tell us about your lake, pond, drainage ditch or whatever fishing experiences. We, or at least I completely understand how much fun that can be. Hell, I've even got a nasty little retention pond near my house behind a convienience store and full of alligators that'll provide an hour of fun catching little bass and the like.

No freaky rituals or nuthin, I swear! hell, you can throw a rock from Moyock to Morehead.

Just a fishing trip, 50 or so miles off the shore of NC. Grouper, snapper (vermillion, silver), black, sea bass, triggerfish, the occasional lobster, mahi... It's a good time. PM me if ya want details.

You guys talking about fishing off shore is unreal to me the biggest body on water I have ever seen is Milford lake in Kansas it's like 8 miles long and a mile wide and 45 ft deep. My boats is a 1973 16 foot long invader with a 115 hp outboard I plan on hitting the lake this weekend if I do any good i will post pics.
