Hey all,

If this is inappropriate, any mod can feel free to delete and I won't be offended. A few of you know more about me and mine more than others, but here's a little more. My wife, bless her, is a special education teacher. I do not know many other professions that are less thanked than hers (firemen, police and teachers all fall into this category). Anyway, the special education departments in schools are often overlooked when it comes to technology and upgrades for the class. My wife has written a grant through www.donorschoose.org . She is raising funds to purchase an iPad for her classroom. Many of her students are challenged in many ways including autism and similar disorders. Many studies have shown that students with such challenges are more engaged and learn easier with aids such as iPads. The link below will take you to her grant/project if you would like to learn more or help out with a tax deductible donation. Donations will be matched for the next 7 days if you use the code "inspire". Thanks for your time.

Wow that is really awsome of her. I don't think I would be able to dk what she does. That takes a lot of appreciation and love. You must be lucky.

Awesome... I just finished a 4 month course on teaching Adults with Learning Disabilities. Ppl with Autism are uniquely (read genius) gifted, visually, creatively, musically, and numerically literate. They see and hear pattern things you and I may not have, this incredible uncanny way of playing back notes, or math strings, or integrating visual patterns to form or solve puzzles...
The best pilots aim to please ;)

Parrot, I happen to agree with you on this, especially the thankless part. God bless your wife, that kind of commitment take a selfless person with a big heart. The desire to raise the quality of life for the people she works with is so important and worth whiled, you must be very proud of her. Her rewarded can only be extended by a higher power. I have a younger brother with Autism so I know some of the challenges and dogmas that are in the way of equality for these special people, And the difficulties for fine people like your wife trying to make life better for them. Really my hats off to her and you supporting her work. Also, Gary, very cool, these folks need all the help we can give.

So parrot, she only needs one iPad, is that correct. Let me know please.

Raptor,

Thanks for the kind words and to everyone else thats replied. No, she needs multiple iPads or tablets, but she started small with this grant. She personally has 28 kids on her case load, with as many as 6 to 13 kids in her class at a time. There are 3 or 4 times that in her school alone. Ideally, she needs at least half a dozen, but for now she's only asking for the one with plans to write additional grants after.

Again thanks to everyone for taking the time to read and/or reply. I am very proud of her and have no idea how she does it.

Thanks Bryan!

Remember if anyone chooses to donate, enter the code "inspire" in the area provided. For the next 6 days, anyone that donates and uses this code will have their donation matched (up to $100) by the donorschoose.org Board of Directors. This means every dollar you donate is double $10 for $20 and so forth.

I really do appreciate everyone taking the time to look at this post whether you choose to donate or not. This really is an amazing community.

Parrot, hats off to your wife. My wife and I have a special needs daughter that is 17 with Retts syndrome, there are a lot of similar characteristics she has that compare to autism. She is still in diapers, doesn't talk and has been on seizure medication for years. We have people that work with her and know first hand that it takes special people to work in this field. Good post.

Hey Parrot, thanks for posting this thread. I've been very blessed to have three children who are relatively healthy. I do have several friends that have special needs children and am familiar with the challenges involved with getting them the extra help they need. The kids in your wife's class are lucky to have someone so dedicated and caring as your wife. I sent some love their way tonight!

Thanks again Jimbo!

Thanks striker, the Pom Poms are cute, but loose the midriff shirt and short skirt. You don't have what it takes to pull off the look.

Anyone else interested in helping out with the grant, there's only 3 days left of the matching donations. Thanks again to everyone taking the time to read this post.

You guys are awesome! As a few minutes ago, my wife is only $49 away from her goal. In large part, thanks the DF community.

$49 away... That's $24.50 more with a match donation using the "inspire" code. She will definitely get there. She's so excited she can't stand it.

Thanks again to everyone! (You too, M4rtin).
