"THE FLYING NUN" was a famous series that aired on U.S. TV from 1967 to 1970 (initially by the ABC Chain) and then around the world with great success.
The 82-episode comedy was about a very nice Catholic nun known as SISTER BERTRILLE, (starring excellent American actress SALLY FIELD when she was barely 20 years old) who could fly and helped everyone getting into a thousand revoluces. (problems)
The plot was unfolded in Puerto Rico where the young religious girl had moved from the USA. to serve at the "Convent San Tanco" near SAN JUAN.
WE HAD NO IDEA
A couple of years ago we learned (through a Puerto Rican WELL LUCIA, member of our page) that series was inspired by a book that became a " bestseller " titled "" The Fifteenth Pelican ".
The author of the book is called “TERE RIOS”, daughter of RAFAEL RIOS, a Puerto Rican who had moved to New York in the early 20th century and married an American-Irish.
His father did a very good job because TERE always expressed PRIDE for her Puerto Rican roots.
TERE RIOS not only enjoyed the success of her book, but she knew closely the success it was to get it to TV, because she worked with production as a screenwriter.
When in 1990 TERE RIOS retired, she moved to FAJARDO, PUERTO RICO where she lived her last 9 years of life. A serious illness led her to seek treatment in the U.S. mainland where she died hospitalized in 1999.
