J4ff, welcome to your new dysfunctional dogfighting family! You've been the topic of discussion more than a little lately so the "in" votes are largely redundant as well as being largely redundant. You may fly that M.O.M tag for all the respect it's worth. (calculate it yourself) Your personal M.O.M pilot banner will be posted and ready for downloading shortly.

I haven't played with Goose but if Coop is pro-Goose I'm pro-Goose. Invite him to come by and introduce himself when you see him.

Hamers, we're flattered that you'd like to align your squad with ours. We can't help but question the soundness of your judgment, however. Seek help. (no joke, H, thanks sincerely for asking. Now...seek help. Quick.)

Before I forget, I've changed my tribute name to Duckwig1. Too many "Which one are you?" questions filling my screen made it the logical choice, especially on the heels of duckss tm, duckduckbopes, Duckinring. Hilarious despite being bittersweet, you guys. So Duckwing3 is up for grabs should someone want it. I count a dozen different Ducks in the Top 100 alone!

It's my feeling that so many players have improvised tributes to Jon the Duck that our community-wide memorial is already underway. Take the following suggestions and work with them as best suits your temperament and schedule:

Monday is, in the U.S., Columbus Day, a national holiday. In Dogfightland, let it be "Duckwing Day". Many of us have already broken off from missions and flown to Duckwing Mountain together. Do that. Attempt Luna's "Duckwing Challenge" of reaching the peak on foot. I intend to get there in a tank, Duck's preferred mode of transport and destruction toward the end. Invite all players in your mission to join you whether walking, tanking, reciprocal slaughterization or chatting from a burning wreck while noobs try to "re-kill" you repeatedly and crash...repeatedly. I've done a little cloud cruising, too, and recommend it. As was the case with Kevin's memorial flights that's a perspective on the game landscape that casts everything in a slightly more contemplative light.

For the sake of our many international friends, comrades and MOMrades, Monday and Tuesday, throughout both days, will be "Duckwing Day". If someone declares his or her intention to fly, tank or walk to the top of Duckwing Mountain, leave them alone out of respect for the Duck. If others in-game choose not to respect the tribute...get in a plane and quack 'em t'hell. Jon would be just as pleased with that.

Luna, Mad, Von Pay, Calvin, Slenderman...does this sound like an acceptable plan?

I want to echo the sentiments already expressed here: it's an astonishing level of compassion, connectedness and community for such a comparatively small game. And a wonderful exhibition of resilience in a time of sadness. Bopes, Zandor, Paul, Muck, dogss, Isaac...thank you for that. Thank you, all of you, for once again showing your graciousness, kindness and compassion. Duck was a friend to everyone in Dogfight. You have the gratitude of all of us in his (mysteriously dysfunctionally functional) M.O.M family.

MOM friends, can anyone give me some info about Jon? I have access to US and ISAF casualty reporting and cannot find anything that fits what I know about duck. It is sometimes the case that WIA who return home and subsequently die of wounds are not picked up in the reports, obituaries and rolls of honour - when they do it can often be very late. Another issue is that private contractors and security staff, often ex military, do not always appear when KIA or WIA. At the very least you guys should know who he was and post an obituary in order to make sure he is recognised. If anyone can give me more than exists in the last three weeks of MOM posts I will get what I can for you. I'm not MOM, so no problem if I'm told to piss off and mind my own business. Rob

Simmo, good idea.

Like you my info is gleaned from the threads. I believe Jon signed some of his earliest posts "Jonathan Hunt" so maybe that's his full name?

Hoping B or Jon's wife (if she's reading) can get us more details.

Edit:

Just did a bit of googling using keywords like "Jonathan Hunt wounded in action Iraq us military" etc and I found this :

“I think 3rd ACR’s legacy is to be that of a long-term enduring partner with multiple Iraqi units,” said Command Sgt. Maj. Jonathan Hunt, senior noncommissioned officer of the regiment and a native of St. Louis, Mo.  “We’ve served four years over here in four different locations, and we’ve had the opportunity to assist the Iraqi Security Forces in numerous training events. So, I think the legacy that we’re leaving is one of building stability and capability in the ISF.”

Could that be our Duck?

And upon further digging, "The Mounted Rifleman" is the regimental magazine of the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, see the Aug-Oct 2010 issue here . If that's our Duck, it has pictures of him.

Other than that the trail is cold as far as articles linking the name "Jonathan Hunt" with WIA status. But that doesn't surprise me. The web seems to be generally devoid of publicly available info on this topic.

Born: Feb. 14, 1983? From either

I also found a Jonathon J. Hunt who was
Born: Jan 21,1968 and had lived in
Fort Hood, Texas.

Another photo: 2009 ,Mounted Rifleman

Just based on the pics this guy looks more like he was born in '68 than '83. Not to say multiple tours of duty in Iraq wouldn't prematurely age a fellow.

Check b strachan's posts. I think he gave some details on that a time or two.

Here's one example, although it doesn't specify theater of war:

Duck was in Army for 14 years and had 16 combat tours. On a 12 day mission he was on his way to be picked up when his spoter tripped an IED. Duck lost both legs above the knees. And one arm. I can't beleve that u would think he was not telling the truth that man. By the way his name is Jon is a hero.

14 years in the Army. That pretty much rules out an '83 born date, no?

Oh, and some additional info about Jon.

Yes, Jonathan Hunt was his full name, I believe he was a member of the 96th (not positive) he had 96 kills (maybe that's where I got the 96 from), he lost an arm and both legs when an IED went off and killed his spotter, he fought in the Gulf War, and several others, and he was a badass.

Does anyone know what medals he recieved? Purple Heart is a given, possibly a Bronze Star?

Brian, I'm sure you know more than any of us, save Heidi, who may or may not read this.
