I feel like there should be more in depth upgrades. One thing is,different ammo types, and different planes have different guns, and fire rates. Also, when you upgrade a gun,you could add more accuracy,or more fire rate. Also,to make this work, planes need to die a bit slower,or be able to upgrade armor

Well phoenix I know you are getting clobbered out there, but there was no 'armor' available in planes in WWI.. most were made from wood & canvas.
As for the machine guns.. yes, there were 2 primary different makes used.. the Spandau & the Vickers (others too, but those 2 were the most widely known ones..) with different ammunition as well as calibers. WWI also brought the first incendiary rounds into common usage (they were developed to shoot down the balloons fyi)
And in no way were guns from WWI as accurate than the magnetic rail guns whose properties & ballistics we seem to currently be flying with lol! They were close in weapons, rarely able to shoot down an enemy from further than 300-500 yards away.. and even that required a 'lucky' hit.. most kills took place within 200 yards between planes.

What about different tank guns,I mean, cannons are fine, but what if we had an optional machine gun,or an in-between gun, that takes 10 shots to kill a hangar, and does one damage to carriers, has longer range than the cannon, but kills planes in one shot too.

But of course for the machine gun and small cannon you would have limited ammo

yes you have to be close to get a good shot, like in the red baron as you said noduff and as zebra said there was no armor they are made of very flammable wood and canvas covered in dope

Yeah, before when I said armor,I was thinking, they had it in ww2,why not in ww1. The sopwith camel had a 130 hp engine, the plane I've flown irl has 230, the f6f hell cat has 2000,and had lots of armor. 2000 hp on a ww2 fighter
