Punchy snow is when you have wind affected (creamy and broken down, packed if you will) on top of a harder, breakable layer, say like a rain or sun crust. So when you turn hard, your skis(or snowboard) punch through. It's grabby and tricky to ride. An avy pit is just that, a pit you dig on a slope to get a cross section of snow(what you are skiing or a good representation of it) to test for snow stabillity(likelyness of an avalanche). You get a flattened face of the pit, check layers, types of snow crystals and various tests to find weak layers and the overall bonding of those layers to determine wether you should be skiing there or not.

Ok. Kamikazi is done hosting the Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day thing they just did. So next year they want another squad to do it and they will vote for the squad they think should have it. But seriously, I installed the new ios6 on my pad and hey presto! my sound is back, the game runs much better....but, the satellite maps are crap! The best comparison I can think of is, google was Da Vinci, apple is a 3 year old with chewed up crayons, but there are some apps you can choose from that use googles street view and of course there's google earth if you need the satellite map/image. They have also taken it into their tiny minds at apple to change the layout of the App Store, this is not too much of a problem on a tablet, but its a pain in the ass on a phone.
All in all though I'm happy, I've got my sound back and the game seems to run better and I never want to eat another Big Mac, ( I spent over an hour sitting in MacDonalds to access their free wifi).

The maps seem much the same, it's the satellite image that's buggered, colour is naff and muted, sharpness is non existent, but you can use google earth for that and if you want street view there are a couple of apps that link directly to it, so it's still as sharp and punchy as ever.
At the end of the day though, the choice is yours, I admit I get a bit peeved having to go from google earth to maps ect, but I guess I shall have to get used to it. I miss that clarity of the google hybrid though when I'm keeping track of where I am.
