If you have the latest update for version .52 there is now a check box under "Graphics" in the settings menu that allows you to turn World Chat and in game Plane Chat on and off. Check to see of those boxes are checked.
If they are checked or if you don't yet have the latest update for version .52, I'll be outside pounding sand as I don't know what to tell you
