I also think 'pimping' the tanks, like maybe a range indicator would be cool/helpful (have no idea if this is feasible). How about a game where you can only die by auto destruct or by crashing. No points or stats recorded.
I suppose you would need to have the jump option for auto destruct so you can get in a chute, go for a walk or a drive.

It would still show hits but no deaths. It would be an awesome training room for any purpose. Since tank shots show as crashes it could be a tank dueling room too. The only trouble would be if some idiot decided to park a tank on the runway.
