Seems like there's more to it, but that's just a guess since I wasn't there. You are showing as muted. What'd you say?
Manfred

EDIT: When we use the Mute Command for someone in-game, the game automatically boots the player from that game -- that's just part of how Mute works.
Again, what'd you say?

Hey guys i was in a game with wig and saw him urging a new player to kill him when he was on the runway. The guy did and as a result he banned the guy. I asked him why he did that and he just laughed, im not trying to stir up any trouble here but thought it might be helpful.

Pedrinho confirmed in the other thread that Vlesha was pottymouthing. Funny, Vlesha didn't mention THAT did he? Let's get off Wig until he's able to respond. I know Wig's hasn't had much time on the forum.

Yup, I entered the same game when they were discussing, and I witnessed the guy being "pottymouthing", annoying. Besides, the guy was not fair playing. And Wig warned him beforehand, but this guy kept doing it, so Wig kicked him.

And Wig's reputation precedes him, period. I'm with him, eyes closed.

I want to state again that muting a player in-game also boots him from that game (it doesn't ban him from further games). Actually, sometimes the mute takes some time to hit all the servers, so the player might still be able to chat for a few games.

Anyway, my point is that we don't know what happened until Wig chimes in. Vlesha is showing as muted but not banned, and by most accounts, he was bumped from that game. Wig may have intentionally kicked him out, or temporarily banned him, or simply muting him would have also resulted in the same departure from the game.

I posted this before but wig gave me a 5 min ban and booted me from a BTC game after I strafed him on the deck. He seemed pissed I didn't have a bomb, (hey tanks can be more effective than a bomb in BTC) then I got the boot. maybe he was having a bad day but to me it's an abuse of power to boot someone when there is no specific rule in place that I could have broken. no knock against wig, we were team mates later but it still irked me to be booted from a game we had a good chance of winning

I don't recall that incident, Suxxor, but it doesn't sound out of character for me. If I determine that a player is abusing the "suppression" aspect of spawnkilling enemy players either on the airstrip or the carrier deck, presumably to cover for incoming bombers who aren't all that incoming, I will, on occasion, kick him/her out. There are those who give the reds every chance to get airborne, turn and evade, then engage. When I see, or am subjected to, spawn rape before the wheels of the plane are up, much less able to turn/evade/fire, that to me is a different thing. Understand, the "Kick" command allows you to immediately re-enter the same mission. It isn't the same as a ban. And we Mods do not have the power to permanently ban a player from within the game, only to impose a five minute Temporary Ban. Permanent Ban power can only be exercised via computer from our online Moderator console. I'm not a fan of "camping". I'll tolerate it up to a point - I'll even do it myself, up to a point - then once having determined to my satisfaction that the camping tactic is being abused I'll kick the player knowing that the server is set up to default that player back into the same mission the moment he returns to play. We all know this is how the server works.

No two Moderators necessarily have the exact same views on what is or isn't discipline-worthy behavior. It's subjective on a Mod by Mod basis. Given the same circumstances Manfred or Reid might not have kicked you. On the other hand Kevy or Gen. Jack might've banned you.

Whomever it was recounting the incident wherein I "asked" to be spawn killed...I have to laugh. That makes all kinds of no sense, doesn't it? I don't have to recall the specific case to know precisely what happened; whenever I'm the victim of, or witness to, flagrant spawnkilling I begin by openly warning the player and requesting/demanding that he/she stop. If the player ignores the typed warning I send an on-screen warning to reinforce that I'm a Mod. Not always, but in some cases, when I've established that I'm dealing with an unrepentant spawnkiller (almost always in a free for all Dogfight mission or a Capture the Carrier mission where, in both mission types, there is no excuse for spawnkilling by plane or tank) I'll give the player one last chance by saying something like, "Spawn kill me again, Player X...and we'll see how you enjoy being booted." i'm not actually requesting to be spawnkilled!

Now then...as for this business of my banning Vlesha for shooting me down: Vlesha, didn't it occur to you that there were witnesses in that mission who'd come forward and tell the truth? As Pedrinho has said, you were using inappropriate language. I didn't "ban" you, I muted you. Manfred has already explained here that Muting also automatically kicks the muted player, You know this because you came right back in the same mission. Ten or fifteen times! I don't know if you thought coming back in a different mission would skirt you around the Mute, but for future reference it will not. You're muted until I or another Mod goes online and unmutes you. I could have unmuted you from within that mission, as well, but you kept entering and dropping back out. Based on the vulgar language you were using the greater likelihood is that I would have left you muted to think about it for a bit longer. And for the record, you did shoot me down before being kicked. The only way you could've shot me down under those circumstances was because I was paying attention to typing in the Mute command and made myself a sitting duck. A Mod can't evade or attack and type commands at the same time. This Mod can't, anyway. It was a perfectly clean kill as these things go, I was engaged in kicking you for something else and the timing happened to fall the way it did.

I hadn't had any particular problems with you in the past. Get a handle on your profanity in the game and we won't have any problems in the future. Continue to use that language with underage players around and you can expect to spend more time muted and/or banned than you'll spend playing Dogfight. It's entirely up to you. And, again, in the spirit of full disclosure, I'm not immune to the occasional bit of unsavory language, myself. I might toss off a "My fkn bomb button stuck" now and then...but I have never and would never engage in childish name calling or personally directed "F bombs" as you were doing to me. I have to wonder how bright you need to be to think better of telling a Game Cop to "F U". Once again, it's a subjective judgment call. In your case I'm betting there isn't one of the other nine Mods who'd have hesitated to Mute you.

Finally, to whomever said I might've been having a bad day...absolutely a possibility. But I still wouldn't kick a player for having shot me down. That's patently absurd. Or "request" to be spawn killed. Equally silly. As the DF player base grows and the number of questionable characters playing grows proportionately we Mods have more and more jackasses with whom we have to deal. If my own behavior were ever influenced by a "bad day" to the point of deserving discipline I'd be the first to discipline myself. But it's up to players like Vlesha as to whether they play a clean, responsible game or lay themselves open to disciplinary action.

Vlesha, if you don't like being muted, don't type language guaranteed to get you muted. It's pretty simple stuff.

Not that wig needs any help from me, but I to was in that game and as was stated before. I caught some of this action. I saw the early warning and if im not mistaken a second suggestion to stop whatever it was that Velisha was doing. Well then... The boot dropped! As a matter of fact another play even stated "I love when that happens" that would normally be something that I would say. Then as V made it back in, stated "you kicked me because i shot you" at this point I had more focus on staying in the game. I did catch some off the foulness and references to kitty cats (I still dont understand the whole cat thing) plus being sent out of the game several times. I have played many games with wig and watched many players test his ability to remove them. It has always been done in a professional maner with several warnings to go along with them.

But above all.......
Dang nice to see you on forum Wig!

Wig certainly doesn't need any help from either. For one thing, credibility & respect which Wig has "earned". And I must echo a couple of important points previously stated. It is quite evident that there are many players of "questionable character " lacking even the basics of common decency. Yep, pretty simple. Being muted and or banned comes down to a matter of personal responsibility doesn't it?

If any player still finds the need to question Wig's performance as a moderator, I would personally love to offer you a free cruise where you can spend lovely days in warm tropical environments while letting your "wounds" heal. Our lovely ship, the JR Trixie will be boarding at the old dock behind the tree line in the rear area of the Jolly Roger compound. While on this cruise, we may offer self guided tours of Davy Jones Locker, and our newest attraction, our seminar entitled "Creative Sources for Bait". We will be embarking at 0230 sharp tommorow morning. No passport is required, but we request you either bring your car title or the deed to your home for personal identification. Make sure and pack light, as our cruise will be all inclusive. We'll see you there!

(Passenger accepts all risks and agrees to hold harmless Jolly Roger Cruise Line Inc, a wholly owned subsidiary of JR Industries Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Jumping Jackalope LLC, a proud division of Whodat Holdings LLC, for any incidence that may arise during transit and on all Jolly Roger Cruise Line Inc. properties)
