It's a big step that can force some maturity, personal accountability, respect, and self-discipline on you . . . but as pmoon says "it's not a magic bullet."
It is a place where they keep you pumped up, feed you for free, cloth you for free, house you for free, doctor you for free, pay you a minimum of about $1600 a month . . . and release from post way to often with little or no (real) adult guidance or supervision. Don't do stupid things, and don't go along with the stupid guys, and remember that alcohol makes everyone get stupid if they drink enough of it . . . and you might come home with more positive growth than negative outcomes.
