Today I took a tour of Gatlinburg and surrounding areas in Tennessee near where I live

My brothers house was in the path of the fire, less than a mile away when the wind changed direction and he was spared.

The thing that surprised me the most were the buildings that were ok next to buildings that burnt. It was very weird.

Several buildings will have a blue tarp on the roof where they had some minor damage. That shows you how close they came to burning.

My brothers wife was in the hospital due to smoke inhalation

I am happy to hear you and all your love ones are ok, hope that your brother’s wife has a speedy recovery and that you all are able to spend Christmas together. My prayers go to those that lost their life’s and homes in this terrible and senseless tragedy. May God give them all the strength to get thru the pain of their loss. People do not know what the consequences of what a prank could cause. Very sad

Davy, the horrible devastation is overwhelming to say the least. Thank you for the update and inside look at the power of Mother Nature.

Just wow and to think I was there not long ago eating with Davy and the Mrs.

Davy a fire such as this is rare in Tennessee but prevalent in places like California. Fire creates it's own environment drawing oxygen from the upper atmosphere down creating winds that help push this type of fire. Radiant heat is a result that literally creates more fuel miles in front of the burn.

I know, I was born and raised in Southern California until we moved out here 9 years ago, we always expected this in California but not here, this was a once in a lifetime event.

We spent an afternoon here with monster cannon in a cabin but I don't remember where it was. It may be gone also.

It's really painfull for all those who lost their hard earned belongings.

One used to build home by sacrificing so many things. It's really horrifying to see it gone for ever. Really inconsolable.

My sympathies to all those effected and wellness wishes for their speedy recovery.

All because of two stupid teenagers.

Tennessee? That looks like a lot of Lake County CA. 2015 saw several huge and distructive wild fires including the "Valley Fire" which alone destroyed over 1200 homes... caused by faulty hot tub wiring. It was the worst of several fires to hit the area and seemed to have inspired an arsonist. Seventeen fires later, including several that destroyed thousands of acres and many homes, the arsonist was caught. Investigators used traffic cams, surveillance video and computer search technologies to identify a vehicle that was in the proximity for many of them. When news of the arrest reached the emergency shelters a crowd of refugees erupted in cheers. The arsonist had to be held in protective custody in the jail.

There were so many fires that 2015 wines from the area have a characteristic smokey flavor.

Sorry to hear about Tennessee. The best thing that came out of the Lake County fires was a tighter community where neighbors who had never spoken reached out to help each other. Hopefully the TN community that returns from the ashes will be a little closer.

Glad you are safe davy, that was unbelievable. The firefighters never got a rest until it was extinguished! It is going to take a long time to rebuild, just look at what happened when katrina hit florida!

Davy, glad you and your family are ok. It stinks that everyone down there has to deal with this at Christmas time. I can vouch for this time of year not being when you want to have a tragedy.
