When we first heard that Elite was replacing DF1 at any minute, I bowed to the inevitable and installed Elite. This was several months ago. I played for about a week, slowly improving, but missing DF1 tremendously. Made it to WR#21 in Elite. Then, I heard that our stats would transfer over, so I figured that the smart play was to go back to DF1 and play there, racking up stats at a much higher rate. Got to WR#31 in DF1, then heard once again that DF1 was closing any minute. Reluctantly, I made the jump back to Elite.

My stats did transfer over, but not my MORAF rank, just my numerical rank, 32. Major bummer! And now there are 47 ranks to achieve before I get back my MORAF status. Grrrrrrrr...

So, once again, I start over. My Elite WR has now slipped to #243, sigh. I play my heart out, cursing darned near everything about Elite. So what if the graphics are better?! The planes are sluggish, and the lag is horrible. Worst of all, IT IS SOOOOO HARD TO SEE THE ENEMY!!! Yes, we have new WW2 planes (very cool!), but they fly much slower than their rated speeds---I looked it up---so they are even more sluggish in handling characteristics than the WW1 biplanes in Elite. I also don't like the timer idea. Cuts off games just as you are diving to deliver the last bomb for a win (!).

However, I slowly get the hang of it, and I improve from WR#243 to #9 over the last month. Then, DF1 is still in operation, and I can't find anyone to play against in Elite, so I open up DF1. Lo and behold, games all over the place filled faces both old and new! I have a blast, and play for 4 hours straight. So much fun, and great to see people I haven't seen in a month. I miss much of DF1 very much.

But, I will admit, I am also beginning to like a lot about Elite. My biggest remaining complaints are:

(1) slowness of performance, so skill in flying is minimized, and shooting maximized

(2) Hard to see enemy, especially for older eyes like mine, and I HATE being shot down like a noob over and over again because I can't see 'em.

(3) LAG! Ruins far too many games.

(4) Very few people, so many empty games.


Does anyone else have a story to share or comment to make?

Yep too many reds seem to have auto-aim now in Elite, they can twist and turn, and then bam right on target for a kill. Or they take off, you lay down 100 bullets, can't hit them but they only shoot four shots and dam you're dead.

There is definitely an advantage for some devices with the WWII planes, not sure what it is.

Call me crazy, but it seems to me that there's a secret brown nosing club out there that continues to email Zup with all these stupid change requests...Bullet drop, boxes around planes (ok that can be removed if you choose), timed games, changes to the kdr, etc. Stuff that nobody really had a problem with in df1. Add to that all the complaints about Windows players being able to out maneuver other systems. Now I can get out turned by a DH2 while in my Siemens Shuckert. So the game at this point in time isn't all that appealing to me. Gimme my sensitivity bar back...Maybe set it at 90-95 percent of what it was on df1 and then I might be interested.

The only complaint I ever had on DF1 was the lag. And that carried over to Elite so to me, all these so called improvements and changes haven't improved anything...I guess it's cool if you're in that club I just mentioned...

I have played on it enough to not really care if I play it at all...know what I mean? That passion to get better at DF1 just isn't there with Elite.

Oh yeah...I bought the ME 109...but I never see it...always allied allied allied...

I miss that skill of flying and performance! I worked hard on it, as many did.

There are some games I've point blank shot a pilot..over, over, over...even registers I've shot them, but they bomb and go.

Exactly Ghostwolf I've crashed into more planes in the last week, than I have been playing the game. Ugh

I can't even play elite at moment as soon as I push play it tells me to update directs me to Amazon then informs my download has been delivered to my kindle & does nothing. I occasionally go into df 1 but not so much now. Although got to admit I like the idea of higher rankings in elite as I found once you make moraf it's game over and there's no more you can achieve. Obviously kdr and ranking but to be honest not too bothered about that. As clearly you gotta play all day and everyday to have such a high ranking and sorry folks I prefer beer and women too much to be here 24/7. For now tatty bye and have fun.......

Ok. My thoughts on elite (and, Comet. You call me a brown noser, Imma fly up to Canuckistan just to give you a belly punch!)

First of all, Summer is here, which means life is super busy. Can't hardly play at work anymore (stupid JOB!), kids got sports stuff, etc, to go to. Freakin neighbors always stopping by because "it's such a nice day out!" Ugh. Anyway, I got to play four games last weekend (Father's Day weekend so I was within my rights to tell everybody to bugger off and leave me alone!) and I have to say...

I LOVED IT!

Now, I was never that great at df1, so maybe that's my problem, however, I started elite right when it came out. Games were mostly empty, so a lot of us would just have fun. Playing 'chase' at the bridge was one of my favorites. Anyway, doing that gave me a good feeling for the new... Old? Planes. New way they fly, anyway. I still suck, but I suck less against the people who have just decided to start playing. It's certainly a different feel, but personally, I enjoy it more. I used to hope to get an Iron Maiden song in my head when flying df1, with elite, Pink Floyd's 'Fearless' suits me better. Unless the reds are coming over the hill, then it's all 'YEEEAAAAAARRRRGGGHHH!' Put whatever song to that you like.

Lag? Well... Yeah. Huh. Never saw that before elite came out, so guess I should bitch about it.

And you know what? I LIKE the clouds! I LIKE that nobody can turn the trees off! I do wish I had a sensitivity setting though. It's very easy to over correct.

Anyway... I'm rambling. Did a 16+ hour day today, wife is up in the hills with the kids and dog and a busted car, I'm running on adrenaline so I'm pounding whiskeys so I can actually get some sleep and meet the new day.

Oh, OH! And I would also like to add, I came home to find out that 'The Old Freakin Cat That Refuses to DIE!' puked all over the floor! Now, on the upside, he puked on the kitchen floor instead of the wood floor. Easier to clean wet messes on the kitchen floor. My kitchen floor is big ass 20" Travertine tile. Know what Travertine looks like?! I used to think it looked very nice. Now I realize that it looks like freakin cat puke, since I didn't even notice it until I (well deservedly) finally took my boots off and found it with my stocking feet!

My floor is the color of cat puke. I got a whole family and a dog stuck up in the hills (yeah, I could get them towed back and have them ride with the tow truck driver, but you know what a tow truck driver WON'T allow in the big ass cab of his flat bed?! DOGS!) and all I can think of is my cat puke colored floor! Ugh. Maybe I should take a bath. The whiskey's not cutting through my pissed offness of that gushy feeling through my sock...

solo caía una y otra vez,cuando salió lo instale,pero después no volví a jugar,en apenas 2 semanas,mejore mucho en el cálculo la distancia y la altura,es mucho más real el disparo que el láser del DF1.Tengo que decir eso sí,que tiene muchos fallos todavía, los árboles desaparecen,el tanque no se frena

Comet, you are crazy. It makes sense though. All the changes that nobody was complaining about. Or perhaps one or two people complained about, out of, what? 10,000 players? Isnt that the number?

Dunc, you nailed it as well. Slower aircraft performance does indeed equate to elite being more about shooting and less about flying.

WW2 planes are slow, so there is no appeal for me to fly in that theater. I think the aircraft are less than 1/3 the rated performance of the actual aircraft, and that carries over to their other characteristics. Climb rate, roll rate, etc. are poor at best. Back to the point about it being more about shooting and less about flying.

Eagle once told me he has no desire to climb the ladder to moraf like he did in df1. I have the same mindset. Elite is good in that it fills the void left by df1, but I don't have the same "gotta play" enthusiasm like I did with the original.

Biggest bitch, getting kicked out of almost every game. That "new feature" is completely unacceptable and I will always question the wisdom of shutting down the original prior to solving that problem.

I am sure there are those that love it, like Husky. Someone either requested the changes or complained enough that the game has morphed into something that, in my opinion, is really great for a really specific group of people. I am not in that group.

Will I keep playing? Sure, but it is pretty far down on my daily priority list. I'm so stupid (Mrs. Viper is convinced I was dropped as a child) I will likely keep paying each month too.

In DF1 lag was there but a restart of the game usually sorted it out Ive tried that in Elite and it seems to be there all the time .i cant see the planes at a distance. i don't like the boxes it takes the realism away but i have them on as i need them as i cant see the planes with my old eyes.
i love Elite but i think the combination of Lag and bullet drop make the bullet drop inconsistent. Remember if you have bullets that don't drop your still going to hit the target no matter if the plane is a second ahead or a second behind due to lag with lag its hard to hit a lagging plane .one game i get my aim perfect the next game i aim the same and couldn't hit a thing and i have a steady consistent aim ask anyone.also i in the tank im hitting planes and the shell is exploding but the plane fly's by if i aim 10 feet above the plane i get a kill GRRR. With DF1 i could never put the game down always wanting to play the next game now i can take it or leave it.Elite doesn't have the allure like DF1 the freeze frames/lag/lack of opponents (empty games)makes it hard work playing instead of relaxing fun
