Zuperman, it seems to me that allowing players to change their ingame name causes more problems than its worth.

Fixed names would make it much easier to track who the game spoilers are, and take preventative action quicker.
Also easier to track the good guys. eg. I saw an name recently that looked just like the kind of name that Davey Crocket would choose, but last I heard he had taken a break due to health issues (Incidentally does anyone have any news of Davey?)

If you do allow name changing, then charge a small fee, that will discourage its abuse by these silly little children with underdeveloped social responsiblity.

I like the small fee idea, except if joining or changing squads.

Of course you can do both, make it once a week, or once a month you can change names, but $5.00 a pop to change.

I agree with comet... I go by two main names in dogfight and i change my name for the holidays

Not realistic, but would make people think twice about changing their name on a daily basis.

Take away the right to change name if the pilot get auto ban from the system or reported by players during in game and are below level 20 as most of the time such game spoilers create new account and play with different name.

It costs about $400 to legally change your name in California.

So it's cheaper in DF.......

Wouldn't bother me, the only name changes I have done since starting were to add a squad to my name.

I can only think of a small handful of idiots that ruin games and change their names...and you know what? The Moron 21s and the Donald Trumps, and the Cookies all get caught, banned, and somehow reappear anyways...

So what have you accomplished?

Restricting everyone's freedom on account of a few dorks.There are other ways to catch these guys without ruining it for everyone else.

There have been many MORAFs that have changed their name, played badly, and nobody knew who they were, because the next they they switched back to being their "lovable" self.

I was imagining a really small fee like 50c or less. Cheap enough if you have a genuine reason to change, but not something an idiot game spoiler is going to do 'cause there is a cost to him.

And creating a new account involves a reinstall, and loss of plane upgrades, they wont do that unless they are actually banned, in which case they start on the newbie server and get no pleasure from the established players reactions.

And its another source of income to Zuperman. Think of the massive increase in game takings when Comet changes his name to Halley every 86 years. !!!

It's just another form of control for all the tattle tales out there looking to report everything and anything the minute some doofus bombs his own hangar or teamkills...or camps, spawnkills, tank camps, flies upside down...you name it. My God, how hard is it to take note of a name you don't recognize, and screenshot the pilot if he's misbehaving?

You can also leave the game while the offender is still playing and search the pilot and screenshot that info. It's easy to see who is who after awhile.

This is only becoming a big deal because a handful of people want to add more control in order to discipline what is really a small amount of idiots out there. I'm against control, especially when the majority suffers from the minority. You like running laps in gym class just because a couple kids were being asses? It's kinda like that...the majority pays even though they're behaving. The phys-ed teacher got punched out for that by the way...

If is this is such an issue and you're concerned enough about Zup's lack of income, then I suggest everyone adding a crown to their profile...couldn't help but notice the lack of crowns by those who want fees charged...

Most other online games I've played don't allow name changes once you've created a character/account. We are lucky Zup allows us to do so.
