In original DF "Enemy territory" begins at (or just before) the distance of a tank shot from the hangars. In Elite it seems to be at the same distance even though tank range is shorter. In Elite (original too?) it seems to be a line all the way across the map fro East to West. If you land past that line you are "off-sides" and you are supposed to respawn.
If you get the "glitch" you don't respawn even if you land off-sides. Since this is not available to everyone it is seen as unfair and cheating. (Same for landing tanks on the ships) Sigh. It's unfortunate. It wouldn't be so bad if everyone had the same effect at any given time. It would change the games, but the way it is unpredictable and is an unsolvable problem.
If the German base is the red dot at F,6 on the map, then the German territory line is approximately 5.3 and goes all the way across. If Allied base is the red dot at C,1.7 then Allied territory is at 2.3ish
It is a problem in Elite with Capture the Flag games because the flag can be dropped in the forest in enemy territory... you may need to drive quite a ways to retrieve it. It can virtually sabotage a game. If you are the only blue it can be impossible for you to retrieve it unless a red shoots you down and allows you to drive in to get it. A lot of people complained about tanks too close to the base in CTF. I wonder if that's why Zup changed it. It really needs to be changed back:
no "enemy territory" in CTF please!
If "enemy territory" is really necessary, could it be a circle around the base instead of having "end zones"? It could be the radius of a tank shot. Of course messing with it might make the glitch happen in Elite. (I haven't seen it yet) In original DF the glitch started when Zup removed enemy territory for CTF. It seems like it can sometimes "spill over" between mission types, especially when different device platforms and updates don't coincide... kind of like when we were getting zeppelins in BTB games. Poor Zup. This is some of the stuff that must drive him freaking crazy!
