Yeah that's the only bad thing with removing the self destroy aspect. But if there was a way that you could only self destroy if you were stuck or tipped over would be great. Then people would have to really think "do I really want to tank, or would it be a bad thing for my team at this point".
Also it takes away from the players that are good shooting planes in a tank doing so, but if a plane gets past them, then they self destroy just so they can protect their base. If they couldn't self destroy then they have to accept they just allowed the enemy a free pass to their base. Really makes taking the tank a major decision with the overall strategy of the game.
