I was honored to be asked to join a squadron - The Foreign Legion. Players in that squadron saw potential in me and asked me to join, i hope i've lived up to that expectation so far. but i've become frustrated with the fact that the game itself doesn't recognize Squadron affiliations at all. they are a naming convention that has nothing to do with how the game is run.

i am forever faced with my own 'Squad mates" as opponents. there are a couple of players in my "Squadron' that i have almost NEVER shared a team with in game. i am always assigned the opposite team from them when i join or they join.

the players i encounter in my Squadron are nothing short of excellent players. awesome sportsmen and fun to play with or against. but what's the use of being in a "Squadron" if you are cast against your mates all the time?

i'd just as soon fly solo - so as to have no qualms about who i am with or who i am against, since the game sees no distinctions between any two players, Squadron or not.

Anyone got a counter point?

I agree to some point, but not entirely. Playing against squad mates is no issue for me. I do agree that if there was some automatic way that one could be joined up with others in your squad, when entering a server. That would definitely tighten squad relationships. Or scheduled league play squad vs. Squad. Being a part of a squad, whether playing on the same side or opposite, has a benefit that I m sure can be found' grasshopper"

It's been our pleasure having you with us at TFL!

You make a great point. This issue has been addressed before. There was even talk about having squad wars. I never did get the insight on what that was going to be about because the topic started before I was in TFL and I was flying solo, so it didn't interest me then.

Well that fell through, unless I am wrong, and that was going to allow squads to face off against eachother from what I knew about it. I can't say for sure but there may be a chance that it may happen in DF Elite.

You are right. It would be very nice to match up with your squadmates. At the same time, it could create unfair matches. I would assume there would be many games that would be lopsided, such as 5 vs 2 or worse.

If something was done to allow for squadmates to match up yet keep the game balanced, that would be awesome. Will it ever happen? That I don't know.

I don't know if you know this about me. I been here almost 9 months now. The first 6 months I flew squadless and the last 3 months with TFL. There are pluses and minuses in both. I can tell you one thing from experiencing both, it is more fun when you are in a game with a squadmate. It's just a nicer feeling having a brother/sister on the same team. Plus I notice it makes me try harder in those games.

So, yes! I completely agree with you. Something should be done to allow for squadmates to play on the same side. I have a few thoughts on how to make the sides balanced should this idea ever take flight and become a serious discussion.

So for now all I can say is that you are a good player bro. Wish we did match up more often because I face up against you more than I would like. So until that time comes, if it ever does happen that is, I would hope you stay with our squad.

You have true TFL character...

Sorry to say they are not your squad mates if they are red and to treat them kindly in a game because you carry the same tag is a let down for your red team mates.being in a squad will help in df elite when and if Zup introduces Squad wars .if i see one of my squad as red And he gets the same love as any other red and i hope he will treat me in the same fashion .at TBh there is no secret code or agreement a RED is a RED(spit spit )

Zup hasn't really addressed squad wars yet. His response here basically says "more to come":

horriblebreast wrote: a quick question about squadrons...

as a leader of G.I i'll need to develop a strategy for our move to dogfight elite. the question for zup is will the 50 member squad size limit still be in effect for the new game?

knowing the possible limitations or opportunities will help me to make a smooth transition over to the new DF elite.

thank you for your hard work on this one zup. dogfight is the best game i play.

zuperman wrote: yes the limit is still 50, so far no changes. I may change it when I finally release the squadrons war part, but I don't want to begin touching anything related to squadrons until I arrive to that stage.

What I have seen is a development of a different kind of relationship with squadron mates, a bond if you will. Squadrons have a chat area where you can discuss things which may be lost in the nonsense that world chat can become or just speak in private to another member of your squad if you wish. That has advantages in itself. Additionally most of the larger squads have outside the game areas where they can meet and chit chat about whatever. Zello, squadron pages, etc. Solo is okay but the experience is totally different in a cohesive squad with online friends.
