I wound up with two team kills and three or four penalties for firing on my team, while being the victim of three team kills and so many doses of friendly fire through my wings that I lost count!
I've been trying to up my game by following Boelcke's tactics as often as possible.
There are a few that I don't see many people following (veteran pilots included):
1. Try to secure the upper hand before attacking.
3. Open fire only at close range, and then only when the opponent is squarely in your sights
5. In any type of attack, it is essential to assail your opponent from behind
8. Tip for Squadrons: In principle, it is better to attack in groups of four or six. If fights break up into a series of single combats, pay attention that several comrades would not go after one opponent.
How often do you see anyone try to maneuver into position instead of just running up the alley, nose-to-nose, and opening up on each other at range?
Flawless number-crunching.
I think the reason you see so many laws going out the window is because the laws have no effect on this game.
When we were noobs, we all tried maneuvering before shooting, gaining the altitude advantage, shooting from behind, etc. Then we realized that because there's no bullet drop, only the most basic gravity physics, and an absurd amount of ammo that can be wasted firing into air, we stopped bothering with those tactics because they didn't work anyway.
When I see someone swerving back and forth on their way to my plane, I just thank Kanye that they aren't shooting at me and spray into their pattern, typically putting an easy four bullets into them.
I find it easier to shoot up at somebody than it is to shoot down at them. I would much rather angle upward.
I do like to fly slightly off to the side and set a crossfire, that's about the only combat tactic that is relevant in this game.
So you thought this was Dogfight? Throw that out the window, this is treadmill simulator.
