My thoughts and prayers for the people of France. I pray for a day when the vengeful targeting of innocent people will end.

Lets pray for the future of our children! I fear for the entire world`s safety, seeing this "Islamic State" radicals growing fast and deadly...

Unfortunately, I don`t see a good future. Wish I had some optimism.

Their have been successful counter attacks against them, and now with this attack, the French military will most likely increase the air raids on then, if not putting some personnel on the ground. But all I know is I feel bad for the people in Paris right now, they are in my prayers. Let this attack be over with and what ever is left of the terrorist be brought to justice

I am devastated by this terrible atrocity. I'm sure for many of you, like me, there's confusion about how to deal with extremist terrorism. Not long ago I held the liberal view that the best course was negotiation and mediation...take away the will to fight and all that...I sincerely hope I'm wrong, but right now I feel that annihilation is the only way. I know there's people out there who don't like me, but please set that aside for a moment.

The video in this link is not for the feint hearted. It's a brutal depiction of the war in Afghanistan through the thermal sights of an AC-130 gunship. War porn to some, but I'm not showing it for that reason.



It highlights the viciousness of the conflict against Islamic State, Al Qaida and the Taliban. Some of those killed in that film were already wounded (note the second pass) and under old conventions would be viewed as non-combatants, and some were almost certainly unarmed from the outset. Unfortunately, when your enemy uses suicide as a tactic, the complexion of the battlefield changes, and so does your ethical compass.

Our joint police / UN compound in Jalalabad was attacked shortly after my arrival in March last year. The outer entry control point, manned by afghan police, was breached by a suicide vehicle IED (a Toyota corolla packed with HME). The subsequent assault group was spearheaded by three young men wearing suicide vests, who took out our second layer of defence, an intermediate checkpoint, also afghan police. The remaining half dozen Taliban, unable to push further, seized a strong point and fought for a couple of hours with small arms and RPGs until they were all dead. The UN section of the compound was defended by ex Gurkha contractors, who fought magnificently and did most of the damage to the attackers. The death toll at the end of the day was nine terrorists, eight police and 19 civilians. I tell you this because I had never witnessed combat like this before, and it connects with the apparent cold bloodedness of the US strike in that film. In our case the enemy cared nothing about collateral damage, had no extraction plan and no intent to surrender. Effectively, they were already dead in their assembly area. In turn, our Gurkhas and the afghan police could show no mercy, and continued to pour fire into them long after they were out of the fight.

The rules of engagement changed on 9-11. The future ain't what it used to be. This will be a very long struggle.

To think this is over the channel from the UK my heart actually sinks however today Saturday 14th November 2015 a Frenchman had a firearm on him at London Gatwick airport at 9:30 GMT the north terminal was evacuated. So the hate of this world is so bad n it started cause the French wouldn't let flights travel to Syria. But my thoughts go to all the victims families.

Deeply sad about killing innocent people in PARIS. My heartfelt condolences to all those who lost their beloved ones. May their soul rest in peace.

Killing each other like eye for an eye will not do any good. It will not end till the root cause of these henious acts are not looked into. The root cause is poverty, unemployment as these gives a person to think in wrong direction. Instead of spending so many on bullets and bombs in retaliation, the same should be spend on these areas to uplift the backward areas and bringing them to main stream. If we can do that we can defeat the unsocial elements who are just few and will restrain those neutral / innocent people who joins them as they have no means to feed their family.

May peace and goodness prevails all around.

There are so many like you Ronnie who are like struck in-between. They don't want to but their job requirement is like that.

It's the people of any nation who can bring the change but instead we think that the representatives elected by us will do the job for us. We kill their beloved ones, they will do the same to us. and the process will go on as we both justified our acts on account of giving justice to those who were killed.

The video link posted by you Ronnie tells how sophisticated the armed forces are. They pinpoint and then use cluster bomb them leaving no chance of survivors. I'm sure 80% of such terrorist outfits are those who are killed like this and the unsocial elements filled their heart with hatred and convince them to go for suicidal bombing /firing as their loved one are already gone in war.

Giving people the security, respectful means of earning and acceptance in society can change things drastically. Take small region of these banned groups, ensure at least two people from every house could earn his living by helping in giving technical skills, protect them, so the unwanted elements can't force them to join their outfit. In secure place and peace of mind there is no place of hatred. I don't think the people will support these insurgents if our forces are able to settle them, they are able to win the battle without firing a single bullet. Other regions will follow if they see them progressing.

Peace is the only way, once can enjoy life else our families and that of insurgents one will reel under the threat of uncertainty. No doubt we have upper hand but human caused disasters like here in Paris can struck in any part of world.

I may be sentimental fool to most who read my views, but I love to stay like that only.

Personally I think that there are a lot of "useful idiots" that are lured into doing terrible things with false empty promises by those that seek to gain something for themself, but rather have someone else pay the price.

It is said that if you don't have a goal in your life, there is always someone else who has one for you.

Fanatics of any sort seek a reaction from those they see as the enemy that will prove themselves and their cause right.
They see themselves as the righteous, knowing few on a moral highground and the rest of the world as either their enemy or ignorant masses that have to make a choice to take a side, preferably theirs.

Those converts are a bigger prize than the harm they can inflict on their enemy, so a great victory for fanatics can be won by luring the enemy into starting to hate all of those caught in between that do not fully aggree with them.......and so turning the enemy into fanatics themselves.
Those in between will choose a side, and the fanatics on either side will claim another victory, or see yet another enemy.

They will never collectively be convinced the "enemy" is right after all, so even when military beaten, their minds will not have been changed and their fanatic ideal will be picked up by others.

The only way to stop fanatics is for those that are caught in the middle to ridicule them, since it's of no use to argue with them.
It's all about pride. Religious pride, national pride, racial pride and what have you. But mostly it's about the "useful idiot's" personal pride. Those they follow appealed to it and installed a new sence of pride in them. That's where they are vulnerable.

If not the "enemy" but their own potential converts ridicule them, it's a fatal blow to their moral. Most will defect and only the few hardliners have to be dealt with.

Yeah, you are all right, but if there was one solution, we could do it.
Problem is it's complicated. There are so many vested interest who want to keep conflicts going on somewhere in the world.

Military top brass.
