Happens to me occasionally too Wumper. Zup mentioned previously that it was a memory issue. IE, too much going on in the game for your device to keep up with. Have you turned off all the fancy features? Any programs on your iPad that are eating up memory space?

I have a large memory device with all the fancy bits turned off and only this game working yet it still boots me!!
Sounds dodgy to me.
